Can you imagine living one day without your phone, and other artificial intelligence? I believe most of us would say no. With the development of technology, a variety of AI are getting involved in our lives. Certainly, artificial intelligence has had a great effect on our society—— from smart soundproof boxes to software and websites on our phones, our lives have become more convenient after their existence. However, there’s still plenty of opposition and concerns. Progressive experts remark that AI has a number of potential harms which haven’t been recognized by people.
First of all, AI technology makes people lose their jobs and get into financial problems. The capabilities of AI are powerful, easily, these robots are able to replace people’s jobs, especially the works that don't require creativity or deep thinking. The AI system simply needs to follow the instructions to complete missions, which can reach the same results as humans do. For instance, nearly 1000 employees got fired on Amazon in 2017 because of the AI system. In the interview of Harvard Business Review, authorities mentioned that “artificial intelligence will make millions of people lose their jobs before 2030. From hotel service to cleaners and deliveries, the current technology has substituted humans. The reduction of the employment rate will give massive burdens and negative effects to society.
Meanwhile, overly much relying on AI makes human beings feel psychological satisfaction and have lower ability in thinking and sensations. When people only depend on electronic products and AI, we no longer need to have deep thoughts, because the computer has already solved all the problems. At the same time, when we deal with too much information automatically remixed by computers, we have less subjective opinions and sensations. We will reduce communication with other human beings. The professor Trevor Callaghan expresses that: “(AI) is hilarious and frightening. If you assume there are no differences between humans and NLP( one of the AI websites), the real question is what happens next?” To sum up, along with the development of sciences, artificial intelligence has also made humans lose our curiosity, thinking ability and subjective communication.
We might lose control of AI in the future, robots may become the leader of the earth. With the development of AI technology, there’s no doubt that this will be a threat. We give various kinds of information to the AI system without any reservations, because we believe they are only machines that only understand how to follow human’s instructions. But what if robots can understand and analyse language in the future? Research shows that the advance of science technology and artificial intelligence is at a rapid pace, which is much stronger than studies in other areas. As long as the internal systems of AI are beyond the ability of human programmers, humans will lose control of the robots. The professor at MIT, Scott Aaronson, remarked that: “If I don't have enough consistency, they will not submit to human’s instructions.” The leader of AI technology—— Eliezer Yudkowsky said: “we know practically nothing about the technology that humans are using today, and how can we know how long we can control them in the future?”
Collectively, in the seemingly convenient and great era of AI, some latent worries still need to be considered. AInhas become a burden in our lives, no matter from the point of view of employment rate, self development of humans, or our ability to control it. Surely, AI’s potential threats are way more dangerous than we can imagine. If humans still keep relying on AI, we may be caught in a trap set by humans ourselves.
