Why do Scientists Explore Space?

The universe began, scientists believe, with every speck of its energy jammed into a very tiny point. This extremely dense point exploded with unimaginable force, creating matter and propelling it outward to make the billions of galaxies of our vast universe. The explosion is called The Big Bang. In the universe, inside a galaxy called The Milky Way, is our solar system. The Sun is the only star in our solar system. It is the center of our solar system, and its gravity holds the solar system together. There are eight planets in our solar system. These are the planets in order: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Pluto is the ninth planet but it does not count as a planet anymore.

As you all know, Earth (the third planet from the sun) is the planet we live on. When the solar system settled into its current layout about 4.5 billion years ago, Earth formed when gravity pulled swirling gas and dust in to become the third planet from the Sun. It was more like the end of the earth than like the beginning of the earth. It was really hot! Now, the earth has the just right condition for life to begin. Not too hot, not too cold. Not too big, not too small. We call it “The Life Planet” . Planets that have the same condition as earth could be very rare in the universe. Ancient people thought that earth was flat and had a boundary. Because there is technology now, people now proved that the earth isn’t flat.

But why do scientists explore space? Because they want to find another planet to move to. Why would they want to move to another planet? Because earth is becoming a disaster for us. One horrible thing we are doing to the earth is polluting. The three major types of pollution are air pollution, water pollution, and land pollution. Another terrible problem is Urban sprawl. We keep building skyscrapers and housing that increase the amount of cities. The green forests and wild grasslands are destroyed and covered by buildings. Deforestation is cutting down trees and also making animals disappear in habitable areas and appearing in urban places. Humans don’t even help about the problem, some don’t even realize it is a problem.

It would be hard. Since Earth is the only world we know of to have life, it makes sense to search for similar planets around other stars. To date, scientists have discovered 55 planets that could be Earth-like. It could take a lot of work for scientists to carry all the people on earth to another planet. What we can do to keep our earth is to stop polluting and grow trees. We can eliminate the other buildings that we don’t need and keep the ones we need. Reduce the number of trips you take in your car (walk more and exercise). Reduce or eliminate fireplace and wood stove use. Avoid burning leaves, trash, and other materials. Avoid using gas-powered lawn and garden equipment. We could create a greener and more habitable world.

Earth is our own planet. It has its own unique oceans and beautiful biomes. Enjoy the water, while it is not polluted. Enjoy the shelter you have, before it is destroyed. Be happy about what you have. Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet and its people. Restoring our damaged ecosystems will help to end poverty, combat climate change and prevent mass extinction. We don’t know what might happen to earth (in the future) if we don’t take good care of it. If we keep destroying mother nature, it will run out of what we need and we will die because of our big mistake. It is our job to work together and fix the future for what we have done in the past.
