Why do people need pets? - Essay Based on Where The Red Ferns Grow

The book “Where The Red Ferns Grow” by Wilson Rawls is an autobiographical fiction. It is a story about love, loyalty between Billy and his two dogs. Dogs and other animals first domesticated were used to help people with hunting, transportation or for protecting food storages, and then people adopted them as pets and became family members. Pets are loving, playful and a good companion.

We need pets since they keep us company and make us more responsible. Pets teach us life lessons and teach us how to take care of animals and be patient. There are families who don't have kids adopt animals as their pets, so they have a companion. While other families with children also have pets, and their kids learn how to feed, walk and bathe pets as they grow older together. We love our pets because they make us warm-hearted. Pets Help us stay calm when we feel angry or if we are sad, our pets can cheer us up. Pets are really helpful and are a family member.

Pets need us too. Pets need food, shelter and love from us. When we adopt pets from the animal center, pets will need to trust us and feel at home, we should take care of them just like their parents and previous caregivers. Pets having feelings just like us, they will develop bonding with us once they trust us. Because pets are domesticated animals, they don’t have the ability to live in the wild. Pets depend on us for love and help them survive. Pets will trust us if we take good care of them.

We share great memories with our pets. Death is inevitable with any family members, but memory will always stay. Our pets have a shorter life span unless it is a pet that can grow very old. That means our pets might die before us. When God takes our pets away, there are many ways we can remember our pets. We could draw pictures of our pets, make a photo book of them and write a happy story about our pets. Even if god takes our pets, they would still be remembered. Memories don't fade with death.

A pet is not just a dog, cat or fish, it is a family member that we take care of and truly love. As we grow up with our pets, we learn how to take responsibility. Pets will trust us and bond with us. We will always have great memories with our pets.
