Why Competing? What’s the Solution?

A recourse is a thing that an organism needs to survive. It can be food, water, shelter, sunlight, soil, and air. Those resources are beneficial to organisms. Organisms being without beneficial resources for a very long time is detrimental, which means it is very harmful to organisms and even causes them to die.

Organisms have to compete for beneficial resources because they are limited. All organisms require resources to grow, reproduce, and survive. They will die of hunger if they don’t eat enough food and die of thirst if they don’t drink enough water. They will get sick and eventually die if there is no shelter for them to avoid the bad weather. Organisms such as plants need sunlight and water to produce food to survive. Plants will also die if there is not enough soil nutrients to support and all organisms need air to survive because they will die of suffocation. The beneficial resources are critical to organisms who need to fight for them.

Plants compete for beneficial resources in many ways. Some plants grow more quickly than others to reach sunlight, some plants have roots that are deep to find underground water, and some plants have evolved to be carnivorous, enabling them to grow more successfully than their competitors on mineral poor soil. Animals compete also for beneficial resources in many ways. Some animals have evolved to only eat certain types of food to reduce competition from other species, some animals kill competitor's babies, and some animals protect their territories by using vocalizations, smells, visual displays or even direct fighting. Both plants and animals have to fight as long as they need beneficial resources to survive and develop the next generation.

There are many solutions to the resources problems. In one way, we can try to find or create more resources for the organisms. For example, people can capture members of large animals and relocate them to other places where there is less competition. In another way, we can control the populations of organisms so that the limited resources can be enough for them. For example, the government can allow hunting of large animal populations at certain times. At the same time, we also need to pay attention to human being’s impact. Urban sprawl can cause organisms to lose their resources and become extinct. Pollution can destroy organisms’ resources. We need to plan carefully and have a rule about how we impact organisms’ resources.

In conclusion, resources are valuable things such as food, water, shelter, and sunlight that an organism needs to survive. They are so limited that organisms have to compete for them. Both plants and animals develop many ways to fight for their resources to survive. The resource problem is so serious that we must take action now to protect our global environment.
