The novel <The One and Only Ivan> is written by Patricia Castelao. It talks about a character named Mack first keeping the animals in the cage carelessly and it happens that Stella almost died, this is the time Mack brings Stella to the vet. But of course she died, and Ruby comes next from the circus. There are toilet problems, and Mack forced George to deal with it. Julia wanted the animals to be free so she put up posters around the mall. After that, there are protesters, so Mack has no choice, but to fire George for letting Julia put up the posters and letting the protesters in the mall. Mack finally gives up and lets the animal into the zoo to have a good life.
Mack is not the only one bad guy in the story, the hunters are also bad. The hunters will hunt the animals and then sell them to someone like Mack or the circus. The circus will torture the animal if the animal don’t train properly. All this progress may cause a brilliant show to audiences while harming the animals themselves. The hunter needs to make money so they harm the animals in the first place. The trap they set to catch the animals may hurt them and die. The trap may make the animals suffer. Animals that are rare or parts of them may be extremely valuable so hunters will make a fortune selling them. Protecting the animal is the right choice, they will all extinct if we all hunt animals.
Circus are cruel because they torture the animals and hurt them when the animals don’t behave in training time. Circuses may perform a brilliant show to us but that is what we see, the truth is that they trouble the animals to train. When they torture the animals, they may hit them with a rope or starve them. There are many more ways to harm the animals. Animals can feel pain too, they are just like us humans. A circus may sell the animals who are stubborn. The money they make may be used to buy more animals from the hunters. The benefit is that they can make more money while they train more animals to entertain people . Animals are important as well as humans, torturing the animals is the wrong thing to do.
The Visitors are also bad even though they don’t harm the animals. They walk into a store with animals or with animal performance in it. While they are at the mall, they will buy something. The animals are just an attraction to help Mack make money, with the money, Mack can buy new animals. If there are no visitors, there will be no hunters because no one wants to buy an animal. If there are no hunters hunting them, Mack might not even buy the animal because there are rarely people hunting them. A visitor may be nothing but there are tons of visitors coming every day so the benefit Mack can make is a lot. In this way, visitors are bad to the animals too.
Overall, in this story, Mack turns mean to the animal so he can make more money, he fires George because there are protesters outside. Mack is not the only one bad in the story, there are others who are also bad but have not shown up. These people are the hunters, circus, visitors etc. Where the animals come from is the wild and the hunters will hunt them. They will harm the animals, then sell them to the circus. The circus will have visitors entertained by the animals and they make money. The circus will torture the animal in many ways if they don’t obey and sell them to Mack. The money goes to the hunter and everything goes all over again. There are many people who are bad too but behind the stage. The solution to protect animals is never going to the circus.
