The story Here’s my Dollar written by Gary Soto talks about a little girl named Angel and she loved animals. She had four cats. Buster, Krystal, Rex, Oreo. She always made sure the cats had everything they wanted. She saw on the news that the local zoo was having money issues and couldn’t afford to get animals a good treat and home. The local zoo had money problems and she decided to write a letter and donate a dollar to it and suggested that if everyone donated one dollar, it could really help. Just like that, from a little normal nine years old kid, she got interviewers and it made her kinda popular. Even people from England send money for the zoo. It was spreading all around the world.
To help the community or a large place, you don’t need to do it by yourself. You don’t need to be rich, a celebrity or even a grown up. You could help the charity in lots of different ways. Just like in this story, the little girl named Angel helped the local zoo by making posters. She convinced the other grown ups and they were willing to donate more money because they were touched by the child’s action. Helping the community and donating things to the poor people are really important and that also means you have a really kind heart.
We might also have other ideas like selling homemade cakes and sweets or lemonades. We could bring it to the park and sell them for money to save the local zoo. While in this story, Angel decided to convince people to help them by making newspapers and sending them. She didn’t directly ask for money. Instead, she told them why and where the money was going. Just like that, people around the world had confidence in her and gave her the money. Helping someone is just as important as helping yourself.
In that time, people didn’t have lots of money or iPhones or even a television. So they only used paper to write to friends and families far away. In this story, Angel only used paper to write news about the zoo and give them the paper so more and more family, friends and people would help the zoo. Not like now, we only need to go to Tik Tok or send a youtube video about the situation. Then, it’ll be great because thousands of people all around the world will be able to see it.
