Every time you look up at the Moon, you think the Moon is ordinary. But actually the Moon is very special. Now I will tell you why the Moon is so special. The Moon is the closest neighbor to Earth. Moreover, the Moon takes twenty-seven days and eight hours to orbit around the Earth once. Did you know, the Moon has no weather and the temperature is unstable. We can see the moon’s light spots and dark spots. The light spots are mostly mountains and hills while the dark spots are flat lands. When you look at a Moon in a picture you can see holes inside the moon. The holes are called craters. The craters are made by an asteroid. An asteroid is a flying rock in space. The Moon has different shapes. The shapes are caused by sunlight. The bright parts are the sunlight and the dark parts are caused when the Earth covers the sunlight from the Sun.
Now let’s look at the history of exploration. America and the Soviet Union did a space race to see which is the first one to go to the moon. America invented a spacecraft called APOLLO.
The UAS won the contest because Neil Armstrong was the first man that got on the Moon surface. And Neil Armstrong said “One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” As a Chinese myself, I did a little research on Google to find out how many times my country had sent spacecraft to the Moon. And there were seven successful missions to the moon. The first phase of the mission was to orbit around the moon. The second phase was for soft landing. The third phase was to get samples back to Earth. The last phase is to build the lunar robotic research station, which will be happening in 2024.
Let’s look at what scientists have found out about the moon. When you look up at the Moon, you see different shapes of the Moon. Have you ever wondered why the Moon has different shapes on different days? The Moon has 8 phases. It needs twenty seven days to go from full moon to new moon. Astronauts made footprints on the Moon. The footprints can last so many years. Because there is no wind or air to blow the footprints. The Moon is silent and dark. There is no water and no weather. So there are no living things on the Moon! People need to explore more of the moon and find out more about the moon.
There is a big influence on people after the first landing on the moon. Because children like me want to become an astronaut. I am a child so I want to learn more about the moon. I felt so excited after my dad showed me videos of spacecraft landing on the Moon and other planets. I am so curious about the galaxy outside of the Earth we are living on. I am really interested in astronomy. The astronauts found out the Moon has no water, air, sunlight, and atmosphere, so scientists concluded there are no living things on the Moon. After astronauts travel to the Moon, they want to go to other even further planets.
Moon is very close to Earth. So there are still a lot of other planets for us to explore. Maybe all the ordinary people can go on a spacecraft and fly to everywhere in the galaxy for a holiday. Where do you want to go? Pluto? Jupiter? Saturn? Or Mars? I want to travel to Jupiter because it is very colorful. It has the colors of orange and yellow. It looks very beautiful to me. But I also know that a spacecraft needs a lot of money, so people need to think of a spacecraft that uses less expensive materials and also can be recycled. I know Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX is making progress on space traveling. I wish him the best in succeeding his plan. One day, space traveling for us won't be a dream anymore.
