Slick Rick Todd Crams in 70 Hot Dogs

The world’s largest speed eating competition—— Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is held in Brooklyn, New York. Three hundred eighty contestants attend the contest, and 35,000 fans watch and cheer for them. The contestants stand behind a long table with Nathan’s famous hot dog and drinks. They eat as many hot dogs as they can within ten minutes.

Slick Rick Todd wins the contest. He crams in 70 hot dogs in ten minutes. That means he only uses 8.5 seconds to finish one hot dog! Only six less than the world record for 76 hot dogs Joey Chestnut made last year.

Slick Rick Todd has an excellent way to eat faster. First, he shoves hot dog sausage with one hand. Meanwhile, he dunks the bread into the water with the other hand. It makes the bread soft and easy to swallow. After the hot dog sausage is gone, he squeezes out the water of the bread and eats it. Shove sausages, dunk bread, squeeze bread, eat bread, then repeat.

“I am jubilant to win the contest,’’ says Slick Rick Todd, a chubby boy with glasses, “Speed eating is an art and science. I will persevere in it.”

Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest is held every Fourth of July since 1916. The winner will get a $ 10,000 cash prize and a Mustard Belt. Tens of thousands of people attend the contest every year.
