Thick Smoke in the United States Smells Bad

Smoke from Canadian wildfires lingered over the cities in the United States most of the week.

  • Where is the smoke coming from?

Canada is having their worst wildfire season in decades, if not ever. Hundreds of them are burning out of control. Even though we are sending more firefighters to put them out, but fire is still burning. When the weather pattern sets up in such a way, the wind pushes the smoke from Canada down here into the United States.

  • What will people do if air quality is bad?

The children who have to go to school can’t go outside to play because their school has a strict rule about air quality. Lots of them are groaning and moaning about not having outdoor play times, which also makes them feel boring. The old people who have asthma is staying at home, closing the windows and doors. They don’t want an asthma attack. The adults who really need to go to work is wearing N95 masks, protecting them from the smoke.

  • How long will the smoke last for?

As long as the fires keep burning, the smoke will still be blown into the cities. It may be a long or short time depending on the weather patterns.
