The pains of Growing Up

Adults are always telling kids to “Grow up”. But really what do they mean? Your parents or whoever is taking care of you at that time would think that you know better than to do what you were doing when they said “Grow up”. They would want you to act maturely because you have come of age. Some people do not want to grow up. They would like to always be a child. There are pains of growing up as most of them involve choices. When you are a child, people make choices for you. They tell you when to go to bed and when you eat dinner. When you are a grownup, no one will tell you what to do and when to do it. No one will teach you to act maturely. You will have to make the best choices for yourself and others. You would not have dinner at 10 Pm because it will affect others as they will not like to go to bed at eleven o’clock. Although everybody grows up at some point, some people choose to remain youthful.

There are many difficulties in growing up. For one thing, you will not have that much time left. You will not get to play all day as you used to and you will be working most of the time instead. You will have greater responsibilities and they will take up much of your time. Time is like money. You only have so much of it. You will always need to spend it on things you need first. Then things you would like.

Another thing about growing up is you would have to work to make money. If you are not the one to make money, you will still spend it. You might have a choice. Buy needed things (like food) or preferable things (like cookies). You should choose the essential supplies first, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t buy optional objects. They are okay once in a while and that will keep children happy. In some way, you must explain to smaller kids that you can not buy anything they want you to buy. They might not understand, so use an example. You can earn more, but if you spend too much, you will have no more to spend on other things.

Lastly, taking care of others is something everybody goes through. No matter if it’s a pet, or child, or even your parents, and most importantly yourself, all need care. Your child might want to watch television while eating lunch, and of course, you will have to decline. It will divide your child’s attention from the most important thing: Eating. Your child will rather focus on television than eating. You yourself might want to spend all your remaining energy caring for others, but you must stay fit and healthy. If you are not healthy, you can not do anything. Try keeping others healthy as well. Exercising and eating properly are some of the most straightforward ways to care for yourself and others.

Being an adult might be hard, but everybody must grow up at some point. Do not try and avoid it, just do the best you can. You must work hard and earn money for your family. You have to take care of kids and make choices. You can not act childish. You must make the right choice and set a good example for others. People expect YOU to do what’s right and you have to try.
