Story Review of There’s Nothing Like Baseball

The story “There's nothing like baseball” talks about a girl named Emma, she likes baseball before she could even play, now she plays baseball, Emma and Jamal leave the field throwing balls. Emma stands in her uniform looking at her mom’s picture, they are a family of baseball. She plays on a team called “Rex’s house of Fin and Fur” Rex’s wife and Rex sponsor the team. Emma wants to be a shortstop. She asks Jamal about the tryout, Jamal thinks Emma would be it. She later had a sad dream that night, Jamal was not unhappy in the dream. Dinner comes and her mom asks how's practice going. The tryout comes and Nikki is chosen. Jamal and Emma walk home thinking There’s nothing like base

Firstly, I learned that baseball is not really the most important thing in the story. Emma did not need to play it, she could choose to play soccer, or other sports, the important thing in this story is the friendship between Emma and Jamal. In the story, if Jamal got the shortstop, Jamal wouldn’t be happy, if Emma got the shortstop, Emma wouldn’t be happy, that is because Emma and Jamal wanted either of them to get the shortstop, they both enjoy playing baseball together. Even though Nikki got the shortstop, Jamal and Emma were happy because their friends won’t be sad. Based on this, I think that friendship is more important than baseball.

Secondly, I learned that we want happiness from sports. Sports can help us to relax from school life. In the story, Emma played with Jamal, and she is very happy when playing, because she loved baseball and enjoyed the time with her friend. In real life, some people are very happy when they play sports, people sometimes enjoy playing sports because it’s relaxing. Happiness is what you can get from playing sports.

Last but not least, I learned that family traditions will influence you. Because your siblings will do it, you will look up to them. In the story, Emma was watching her mother and her older brother play baseball, so she liked baseball before she could even hold a bat. Family traditions can impact childrens’ interest. Children don’t need to follow a family tradition but it could impact children.

In conclusion, I want to say, friendship is really important. Emma and Jamal have an good relationship, they want each other to be happy and they will gain happiness from playing baseball. That’s the real “There’s nothing like baseball”
