Story Review of There's nothing like Baseball

Plot: Both Emma and Jamal want to be the shortstop, they're thinking who's going to be it.

This worth  investigating story written by Angela Johnson, talks about a girl named Emma who loves baseball. When baseball comes, she always thinks of it on the way to the field. Emma and her friend Jamal sit at the team meeting, they throw the ball outside the field. She stands in her uniform at  the mirror, her brother and mom are baseball players. She wants to be the shortstop, but Jamal wants too. They both want each other to be it, but Emma fells bad. She dreams that she is happy, but Jamal isn't. At the next day tryouts, the coach holds a meeting when they're done. Emma will play second base, Jamal will play first, Nikki is the shortstop. Emma and Jamal walk home together, there's nothing like baseball.

 Sometimes, friendship is more important than anything we like or want, and it gives us happiness. If we lose a friend, we won't be happy even if we get everything we wish in our life, so it's significant to be with our friends. Emma feels bad because Jamal can't be the shortstop, she think the grass doesn't smell good and the sound of bats doesn't make her smile. Actually, the grass is the grass, it never change, nor the sound of bats, it's just the friendship effects Emma's feelings. When some problems happens between you and your friends, choose the right choice -- hold your friendship .

    The belief of sports is we should try to be best and do our best, everyone gets to play. We don't discriminate against anyone, everyone is equal and fair. Rex and Sophie think they should try to be the best, and more importantly everyone gets to play. This is the true credo of sports which Emma likes.  Sport is higher, faster and stronger. It means try our best.

  When we describe a thing, we can use indirect description to make it beautiful. Indirect description doesn't tell things directly, it uses symbols or special way to tell and make us think. In the story, the author uses five senses to tell Emma likes baseball, uses symbols to tell the season, and uses special ways to tell the passion of baseball. These sentences are beautiful, and push readers to think about what the author wants to tell us. Using indirect description will make your article beautiful.

In conclusion , this story is full of meanings, it tells us that true friendship is not humility, not grievance, not grief alone, but trust, moving forward together and encouraging each other. It surpasses our desire always.Sport is not just about the competition, and how many medals you won, but whether people try to participate , try hard to challenge.Proper indirect description will make your essay closer to life, full of details and a sense of picture. This is a skill that every learner who learns to write has to master gradually.
