“The Secret Garden”by Frances Hodgson Burnett tells the story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled and lonely girl who is sent to live with her uncle, Archibald Craven, in a grand estate in England after her parents die from a cholera disease in India. Mary discovers a hidden, locked garden that has been abandoned for ten years. With the help of a local boy named Dickon, who has a special connection with nature, and her cousin Colin, a sickly boy, she begins to bring the garden back to life. As the garden blooms, it transforms not only the landscape but changes the characters. Mary evolves from a spoiled and pale child into a caring and joyful girl, Colin grows stronger and more confident, and Archibald learns to reconnect with his emotions.
It is impossible to make progress without changing, and for those people who do not change, their minds cannot change anything at all. Growing is part of life, we will grow and we can’t stop it. In the story, Mary is stubborn because she does not have education and gets spoiled too much. After she found out about the secret garden, she is healthy and kind and all nice because she learns and grows out of her “stubbornness”. Learning is a part of growing too, we can learn from nature and almost anywhere and we don’t even need to have the proper equipment for it. Growing is a natural part of life and it can help us develop and become a better person.
Parenting is something that needs a lot of work to go through, with some shouting and caring and mostly love and spending time with your child. Parenting is taking care of something and giving it lots of love. Bad parenting can involve spoiling your child too much and not caring for your child. In the story Mary’s parents spoiled Mary and did not care about her before they died and after they did die, Mary is still stubborn and spoiled like how she started because her new home has a servant too. This can be called Toxic Parents, if a parent doesn't care about their kids and barely spends time on them and spoils them too much it means that parents are not treating the child well. Parenting is taking care of a child with kindness and spending time on them without spoiling it for the child.
Friendship is a special relationship between two or more people who care about each other and enjoy spending time together. It is a great way to build on trust, respect, and support. Friends help each other and only bad friends will leave you out of a problem. In the story, Diction and Mary are good friends, they share their secrets and plant things together. A true friendship they two are. Having a friend means the two for more will stick together and usually can help each other when in need but bad friends will only stay with you because you have something, and if you lose that thing they will break-up with you. Good friends are one who help each other and work together.
Nature can generate many positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, and creativity and can stabilize concentration. Nature can even help with our own important mental health, particularly lower depression and anxiety. Nature makes us happy with all of the emotions and have proved that the emotions can improve our mental health. In the story, Colin has never smelled the fresh air of nature because he “thinks”it is bad for him, Colin can’t stand up but after all these years he finally gets fresh air and that cuts his “so called curse” because of the feeling he gets that he never got before. Nature improves our economy, our society, indeed our very existence. If there are no trees there will be no houses and wood tables and almost everything and there will be no air.
