The story THE PRINCESS AND THE PIZZA written by Mary Jane Auch is about a princess named Paulina. Her father, who used to be the king, had given up his throne and they became a poor family. One day a queen named Zelda put up a competition to see which princess would win and have the right to marry her son, Prince Drupert. In the end, Princess Paulina won the competition by making the most delicious meal which she had named it “Pizza”. However, Paulina didn’t plan to marry Prince Drupert. Instead, she opened a pizza place with her own secret recipe and delivered them to people in the town.
This fairy tale blended several other famous fairy tales together. For this writing strategy, the author blends existing stories together and makes a new story. In this book, the writer mixes five fairy tales such as Princess and the pea and Rapunzel. Putting stories together would give readers both a familiar and a refreshing feeling. You know some of the characters in the story. Yet the way the characters are put together is new and interesting. It is like meeting an old friend that you haven’t seen in a while. That friend is very familiar but he/she may look different because he/she did something great over time. THE PRINCESS AND THE PIZZA mixed five well-known fairy tales together which made the story more intriguing.
This story teaches us many great lessons, one of which is that we should not judge people by their appearance. The look of a person doesn’t show everything about that person. In the story, all the princesses in the competition were pretty, but only some of them remained when the first test of feeling a pea under 16 mattresses was over. This tells us that sensitivity and other characteristics have nothing to do with how a person looks like. We could not judge somebody right away just because they look mean or ugly. They might be really helpful or have a kind heart. People’s appearance doesn’t matter, what truly matters is their heart.
Women don’t need to rely on men and they can support themselves on their own. Women won’t just do everything for a good husband. In the story, Princess Paulina entered the contest for marrying Prince Drupert, but she actually didn’t want to marry him at all. She had other plans for herself. Women could be independent. They could pay their own bills, take care of their problems, have her own opinions, and not let a man affect her self-confidence and stability. Women could live a good life without depending on men. They will never do everything just for men and winning their hearts. Women could support themselves and follow their own path without letting a man affect their feelings.
