Story Review of The Blind Hunter

The story The Blind Hunter, written by Kristina Rodanus, talks about a story where an old man is hunting with a young hunter. The old man is full of wisdom and people like to ask him questions that require a lot of thoughts. Because of his wisdom, people loved him a lot and treated him well. But because he always laughs together with the people, little people notice that he is, in fact, blind. One day, a stranger came by and was invited to sit and talk with the old man. They agreed to hunt together the next morning. The next day, when they were hunting, the blind old man warned the young hunter many times about things hard to see with eyes. At last, when the young hunter discovers that the blind man had caught a bigger bird than he had, he was very jealous and switched the two birds. He was astonished when the old man told him that he knew the truth, and forgived. This is a good book because it teaches us many themes.

One should never judge a book by its cover. The inside, in contrast, is where we seek one’s true value. In the story, the young hunter is quite jealous when he discovers that the blind man had caught a bigger bird than him. He thought the blind man would never notice it. The young hunter thought that the old man did not know what happened and thought he had caught the skinny bird until the old man debunked the lie. This is what disrespecting disabled people can bring you: feeling ashamed and discovering he knows everything. Furthermore, even though Chirobo is a blind man, he can still hunt. Why is that? Because he can use his other senses, instead of just looking. Therefore, we should never judge a man by his appearance.

There are many ways one can solve a problem. One should never think only one solution is useful and if that fails, the problem is unfixable. In the story, the old man has obstacles seeing with his eyes. Because of this, he cannot do many things, such as hunting and walking. However, It turns out that Chirobo can still “see” through his other senses, such as hearing, smelling, and touching. The problem in this story is that the old man had difficulties with seeing with his eyes, as he is blind. However, there are many ways to solve the problem, such as his other senses like hearing, smelling, and feeling. In fact, these methods are even more effective than seeing with eyes, as Chirobo can sense animals that are hard to see through eyes. For this reason, one should understand that there are many ways of solving a single problem.

Jealousy is one, of many, of the deadly sins that can cause a huge destruction in relationships. One should avoid stealing from others, when they are jealous. In the story, Muteye’s brain is filled with jealousy when he sees the fat duck Chirobo caught. He immediately switched his skinny bird with the plumb duck. Muteye thought the old man would never notice. Until he debunked the lie. Muteye is quite jealous when he sees the plumb duck. He did not believe that such an old blind man has the ability to catch such a huge bird. Because of his jealousy, he stole the fat duck from the old man, thinking he would never notice. In reality, the old man knew from the first moment. At last, Muteye felt ashamed and returned the duck. Thus, one should never let jealousy take over his mind.

In conclusion, this is a good book because it teaches us several important themes. First, one should always treat others with respect, no matter the appearance. Judging from the outside, is how one misunderstands one’s true value, as it lies underneath the skin. Second, there are multiple ways one can solve a problem. One should never think that there is only one way to solve a problem. The problem of blindness can be solved by using other senses. Therefore, there are no limits for solutions to a problem. Lastly, one should avoid being jealous, as it could lead to a disaster. Letting jealousy take over one’s mind can lead to acts like theft. Therefore, this is a good book because it teaches us many important life lessons.
