Story Review of Stone Soup

Basic elements:

Character: Hok, Lok, Siew

Setting: On the mountain road

Plot: They want to find out what makes someone/a person/one happy.

Genre: Folk Tale

Perspective: Third person view point

The story Stone soup written by Ann McGovern talks about three monks and they hiked to a mountain where there was a village. They talked about cat whiskers and the color of the sun and giving when they were hiking along the mountain road. The village had been through many hard times such as famine, floods, and wars. They were untrusting. The village’s people were suspicious of their neighbours and strangers because of wars and they were selfish because they only worked for themselves. When the monks knocked, they were cold towards, by not greeting them. Then they shut their window and when they knocked, they just closed the lights like no one was home or like they were all sleeping. Then, They decided to make stone soup and that made everyone become friends again.

Happiness is important and it can be found easily all over the world. Happiness could make our lives change forever. And just like in the story stone soup, the monks make the villagers to make soup with three round stones. Then, they finish making the soup and eat it together. That made the small village get back together again. The three monks made happiness in between the village people. Happiness is so common that it's all over the world in two thousand twenty four. It makes things better than before.

People should help others in need and be grateful that others are helping us and trying to save our lives from unhappiness and other things. We should always appreciate other people’s kindness. And just like in this story, the monks arrive at the village and they knock on the doors. Nobody answered and so the monks decided to make stone soup. They helped the villagers get together by making soup and making all the villagers come and then, the villagers would help and finally understand that it is important to support each other all the time. We will always get something good if we help a lot of people in need.

We could always get together and be friends again no matter what. We just have to try to get along again and try to trust other people around us. In this story, the villagers were not together and were untrusting of strangers and other people. But at last, they got along by helping one another and making soup. They kept adding good ingredients to the soup and the soup got richer and tastier. If we try, everything would go back and get better one day. Trying is just as simple as saying farewell to others.

In conclusion, happiness, the monks and the villagers are really important to the story. Happiness is important and it can be found easily all over the world. Happiness could make our lives change forever. People should help others in need and be grateful that others are helping. We should always appreciate other people’s kindness. We could always get together and be friends again no matter what. We just have to try to get along again and try to trust other people around us. Trying is just as simple as saying farewell to others.
