Story Review of Seven Spools Of Thread

In a small African village in the country of Ghana there lived an old man and his seven sons. After the death of his wife, the old man became both father and mother to the boys. But from morning until night, the family's small home was filled with the sound of the brothers' quarreling. After their father died the sons work together to turn the thread they have into gold. In the end they succeeded , they also helped the poor villagers turn thread into gold. This made their village famous for its beautiful, multicolored cloth, and the villagers prospered.

We should not argue with others about some small and unimportant things. Arguing do not make us do something more quicker. More importantly everyone in the family will be unhappy. In the story the sons always argue with each other so the things they are doing are done very late. Every son also suspects each other. But after their father died they lived together in peace. Arguing will only waste the time we have. Also it will make the family relationship very bad. While we are arguing with someone , we can’t do anything, so there is no use to argue with others.

We should work together with others to help us spare time and make things easier. When everyone works together, we can make a more accurate decision. We can also increase of efficiency. In the story the sons all said out their own idea and some solution for the problems of the idea the decided upon. Then they work together and got money for selling the cloth they make. They make the thread they have into gold using teamwork. Teamwork help us complete tasks that are too difficult for us to do by ourselves. We need teamwork to do the impossible.

Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. When we teach someone how to do something to live on, we can save that person’s life. In the story the sons didn’t received gold from the chief, instead they got seven spools of thread from the chief. They then learn to make a cloth and earned money. We can help the poor people live on by teaching them how to make or do something and save them. We should not give someone something they want directly, instead we should teach them some skills to help them get what they want.

There is an old Chinese saying that harmony makes money. (和气生财)When we do something we should not argue. We should work together and exert our strong points to solve the problem. When we want to help someone we should not give them the result of the solved problem, instead we should teach them how to get the result. This way they can sustain development, which means that without help the still can live on.
