Story review of Ruby’s Wish

Characters: Ruby

Setting: China, old time (Long time ago)

Plot: Ruby cannot go to school as the other boys.

The story Ruby’s Wish, written by Shrin Yim Briges, talks about a girl called Ruby who lives in a very big house in old China. But in her family, only boys can go to school. And girls need to learn how to keep the house clean, and study how to cook. They also learn how to take care of their husband in the future. That’s not fair. So Ruby has a wish that she can go to school too! This is a great book. I can’t imagine how was the girl’s real life in old China. I think everyone is equal. Boys and girls need to be the same.

Firstly, we are all human beings so everybody needs to be the same. It is not good to say whether girls or boys are more valuable. Like boys can do some complicated work, but girls can do too. Girls just need to have opportunities to learn that work. If girls have no chance to learn, how can they finish that work. So I think, we cannot group people into male groups and female groups. Everyone has to have the same opportunity.

Second, girls also make some great achievements in history. As we know, a lot of boys did some great jobs. But as far as I know, a lot of girls also reach unbelievable goals, like Madam Curie, Rosa Parks and Eleanor Roosevelt. For example, Madam Curie won two times of noble prizes for discovering polonium and isolating pure radium. There is no other male scientist that win a Nobel prize for two times. That is a great achievement made by a girl. Therefore we need to provide same opportunities, and girls wont be worse than boys.

Last but not the least, it is very important for girls to get a higher education. Having the same opportunities or better education means more choices for girls. So they can get better chances in the future. For example, if Ruby didn’t go to school, when she grew up, she has to do all of the house work. But if she goes to school as other boys in her family, maybe she can grew up as a teacher, scientist or other jobs. In conclusion, taking more education is especially beneficial for girls. This is an important step for boys and girls can be treated in the future.

To summarize, no matter boys or girls, they are born as a human, so everyone is equal. They have to have the same opportunities, same choices, and the same human rights. It is unfair to treat boys and girls differently. Girls sometimes achieve higher performance in their work. Girls are brave, tender, careful and insisted. I wish all girls can really have the same opportunities as boys. Without girls, the whole world will be boring. This is a great book. I highly recommend you can read it.
