Story Review of Pushing up the Sky

The story of pushing up the sky written by Joseph Bruchac is about how Sonohomish people work together to solve a problem. Long time ago, the sky was too close to the earth. The people were not happy because there were a lot of troubles. They decided to work together and find a way to push the sky up. After the hard work, the sky was finally pushed up and people never have problems again.

I learnt from the story that we should help each other so we can solve the problems together. Without help, we may have to take a longer time to work on the problem by ourselves. In the story, the people tried to push the sky up but they couldn’t. They found the birds and animals to work with them all together. With those help, they finally pushed the sky up. This is the right thing to do because when they help each other, they all get benefits and it is worth of it. We all should be comfortable getting help when we need it.

I also learnt that we should find the right tools to help with the problems. Different tools have different usage. We need to understand how to use tools. In the story, at the beginning,  they couldn’t push the sky up because the poles are too short. They found the long poles to do the job later. It is important to find the right tool to do the job because we should try to use the strength of the tool. We should all learn how to use and find the right tools when we meet problems.

Last but not least, I learnt that when people work together as a team, we can get the things done. We also should know how to do teamwork together. In the story, when people work together but not using the right way to push the sky, the sky doesn’t move. When they learn how to push at the same time, they finally do it. This tells us that we should know how to work together. When we use the right way to do team work, we will be more effective.

In conclusion, this story talks about how people solve the problem and work together to push the sky up. I learnt that when we have issues, we should try to solve them. We should try to find help and the right tools. We also should know how to work together to have the right team work. In the end I learnt the difference between play and fiction. The play can tell a fiction story. It also has the basic elements like characters, settings and plots. However the format is different. First of all, the play has characters and settings listed for the reader. Secondly, the play has several scenes.
