Story Review of One Riddle, One Answer

The <One Riddle, One Answer> written by Lauren Thompson, illustrated by Linda S. Wingerter. The story talks about long ago in Persia, the powerful king sultan has a clever daughter named Aziza. Her favorite subject is numbers and favorite game is riddles. Many years later, king Sultan wanted to seek a suitable husband for Aziza, but it was not easy for Aziza to get a husband, because all the advisors were recommending their sons. Aziza suggests a solution that she will pose a riddle, whoever can answer, she will be happy to marry. But none has the answer, each observed only what they are good at. Aziza feels discouraged. But one day, a farmer who also likes numbers solved it out, that is number 1. At last, they get married.

When we meet a problem, don't just use what we are good at to solve it, learn to empathize with others. We need to think and solve problems in many ways. In the story, the astronomer answers the sun, the soldier answers swords and the merchant answers money. Their answers are all related to their jobs, but they don't know that Aziza likes numbers. These answers are not completely wrong, but it shows the 3 people’s views are one-sided. In real life, when we accept an interview, we need to know the reason behind the examiner's question so that we can give the right answer. Learn to empathize with others, feel their ideas, to win.

We should use positive thinking to cope with every difficulty around us. Positive feelings keep us from mental breakdown. In the story, the sultan thinks no one can find out the answer of the riddle and sighed, that is a negative feeling, but Aziza says perhaps there will be one, and one is all that is needed. So at last, Aziza finds her lover by positive feelings. In real life, when we meet this kind of situation, we have to face it, some people think: Oh no, no one can get it out. But some people think: That is fine, one is okay. And finally the positive person succeeds. When things get tough, keep positive and keep trying.

Doing what we like to do, keeping interests and hobbies will make us special. Maybe our hobbies will help when we grow up. Interests and hobbies are a small bud, to see if we can cultivate it well. In the story, Sultan let her daughter Aziza take up her hobbies, and she made the interesting and hard riddle, and at last, she married a farmer who also likes numbers and riddles. But in real life, many Chinese parents think hobbies are trash which influence learning. But in other countries, hobbies are helpful. Never underestimate any talent, let your special shining.

In conclusion, I learn so much from this story. Firstly positive thinking to cope with every difficulty around us. Secondly, learn to empathize with others. Last but not the least, interest cultivationing, our hobbies make us special and more. Even fairy tales will tell us the truth about life. Fairy tales and fiction stories make our first opinion of the world and they are also useful when we are older. I highly recommend this story to you, and I hope you would like it.
