Setting: Napville’s School and Napville’s Police Department
Plot: Police Officer Buckle shares his safety tips with the students at Napvile school, but no one listens. But, When Police Officer Buckle and his new partner Police Dog Gloria have the safety speech together, the speech is successful. They become good partners.
The book Officer Buckle and Gloria is written and illustrated by Peggy Rathmann. Officer Buckle shares his safety tips with the students, but it is boring. One day, a Police Dog named Gloria is assigned to assist Officer Buckle. The safety speech becomes wonderful! But Officer Buckle feels upset because he is doing everything, but Gloria takes the credit. A boy who has written to Officer Buckle before and reminded him that he and Gloria are a team. So the two friends, Buckle and Gloria, make up and continue to work as a team.
Firstly, I learn that teamwork can help us do things we can't. Unity can help us achieve outstanding achievement. In the story, Officer Buckle’s safety tips speech is very boring, and no one listens. But when Gloria becomes Officer Buckle’s partner, everyone like Gloria’s safety tips imitation show, and the speeches are successful and wonderful. For a team, doing your work better is more important than getting more attention. One tree doesn’t make a forest. Teamwork is essential to our success.
Secondly, I learn that an interesting and wonderful speech makes us have a deep impression and will take effect in the future. If a speech is boring, the audiences pay no attention to what it is saying. In the story, Office Buckle’s speech is unimaginative and boring. When Gloria join the speech, his imitation show let the children feel excited. A speech full of fun always leaves people wanting more. So if A speech wants to be remembered and work in the future, we need to improve the funny of the speech.
Last but not least, I learn that we need to follow the safety tips. If you don't follow them, small problems make big accidents. Your wrong behavior will affect others. In the story, Mrs. Toppel didn't follow tip 77#: Never step on a swivel chair. So when everyone slipped into the chair, she fells down. So minor problems can turn into great tribulations. If we obey the safety tips and check the wrong behavior at the beginning, we can avoid many dangerous things.
I like Officer Buckle and Gloria. They are a pair of good partners. It is a funny and warm story. I learned many things from it. Firstly, teamwork can help us do things we can't.
