The story “My Very Own Room” is written by Amada Irma Perez. The story talks about how she, as a girl, lived in a bedroom with 5 other brothers. She really wanted privacy, so she wanted another room. However, their house was really small, and her father already had to work very hard. Anyway, she thought that the storage closet could be a really nice space. Her mother finally agreed, and she started the preparations. After the bed, the paint, the nightstand, the books, and the lamp had been placed in, Amada invited her two brothers into her room to listen to her read books. At nighttime, she slept silently all by herself, peacefully.

Privacy is an important concept of life; sometimes, people don’t want to share some secrets, or they just want to be away from chaos. It makes life much simpler and easier, as it can remove or decrease unwanted meddling or interruptions from other people. Amada wanted a new room because her brothers were too loud and noisy, and she couldn’t stand such a frenzy. Amada desired privacy because her life was always being intercepted by her brothers since they were very active. Privacy is important when it comes to personal things, such as sleeping, and also to feel less pressure.

Appreciation should always be used to show gratitude to someone who has helped you with something. It makes other people feel appreciated and happy to help you since you are always gratifying to them when they help you. Amada gives the two brothers a read-aloud since they helped her make a new room. Since Amada gave appreciation to the two brothers, they would be very happy to help her again when she is in need. Appreciation is a way to give thanks to someone and let them feel that it was the right choice to help you, and more likely that they would help you again later.

Family is a romantic relationship that provides help to each member; it lets the people cooperate and help each other when one desires something. Each family member receives help when they are in need or when they have some trouble; they are a group that has romantic bonds, and that is what makes each person care for others. When Amada wants a new personal room, everyone in the family tries their best to make her desire come true. Each family member wants to help Amada because they have family relationships, and that they have helped each other before. Family is what makes people empathetic of others, take care of others, and be generous to those who need help and assistance.

In conclusion, this book is good in part because shows how one can show appreciation when someone has helped her. It also shows that privacy is important, and it is important to have it when you feel you need it. This book is also bad in a way because it makes people feel lonely, so being too individual is not a good thing. They could have just split a bedroom using curtains. However, I still think this book is good because it teaches very good themes and lessons.
