The story of <My Name is Yoon> was written by Hellen. It talks about a girl named Yoon who travels from Korea to America. Yoon doesn’t like America. On the first day of school, the teacher teaches Yoon about cats. Yoon writes the word CAT on her practice paper instead of her name. She just wants to make the teacher like her. One day at recess, the girl sitting behind Yoon gives her a cupcake, this time Yoon writes the word CUPCAKE on her practice paper instead of her name. Yoon wants to be a cupcake so her classmates will like her. The next day, Yoon draws a picture for the teacher and the teacher likes Yoon now. Finally, Yoon writes her name on practice paper, her teacher says: “You are Yoon! Yoon’s name still means shining wisdom in English.”
Many different things have reasons to believe it’s good or bad. Differences can help us to get used to something new, but sometimes it can affect our feelings. People who like new things will like differences in their lives but people who don’t like new things that they don’t like to change. In the story, Yoon moves from Korea to America. She is not familiar with America, so she doesn’t like America, she always says she wants to go back to Korea. This is just because Yoon isn’t used to being in America. Sometimes difference is good because it can help us experience many things. Sometimes the difference is bad because it will make people nervous and want to run away from it. Differences have good and bad reasons, but we should never be stuck in a rut.
When we get into a new environment, we will face new people and new things. It’s always difficult for us at the beginning and we might be nervous, but this is a good time to experience new things in our lives, therefore, it is also a good chance for us to challenge ourselves. In the story, Yoon goes to a new school, she is not familiar with it, she is not familiar with the language and her classmates. So she wants to go back home. But Yoon is brave, she tries to draw a picture for the teacher which makes them become friends. Whatever we do in the new place, we need to have courage and do our best.
When people come to a new place, they might be nervous in the new environment. We should be kind and welcome them. This will help them get into the new place quickly. In the story, the teacher welcomes Yoon, she is very kind to Yoon, she helps Yoon to join in the new school life quickly. Yoon’s classmates help Yoon by giving her a cupcake. They are all kind to Yoon; this makes Yoon feel be liked. When we welcome someone, we will make a good new memory for the newcomer. When a newcomer comes, we should not bully them, instead, we should take them around the new place. We should treat the newcomers politely which will make them happy, and they will be nice to us too.
This is an outstanding story that tells us many morals. Sometimes the difference is good, but sometimes it is not. Some people like to try new things, so they like the differences. Some people feel they are not used to them, so they don’t like the difference. If we go into a new environment, all the things are new for us, we may be afraid which makes us want to run away. But we should try to adapt to the new place. If there is someone coming to our place for the first time, we need to help them to join in the new place. If we help them, we might make them have a good impression, and make them adore this new environment easily. This is a fantastic story that we can learn many things from.
