Story Review of My Name Is Yoon

The realistic fiction story “My Name Is Yoon” talks about a Korean girl named Yoon who just moved from Korea into America. Yoon doesn’t like her English name, so she writes Cat, Bird, and Cupcake as her name, but in the end, she accepted life in America and wrote her English name, Yoon.

First, I learned that we should be patient when we arrive in a new place. Being patient while making friends can help us to make friends successfully. In the story, Yoon was patient and soon met a ponytail girl who wanted to be her friend. By using this tactic, Yoon now had a new ponytail pal. So, we shouldn’t be impatient when we are in an unfamiliar place.

Secondly, I learned that we should welcome newcomers. Welcoming newcomers can make them comfortable and make us satisfied. In the story, the ponytail girl welcomed Yoon by giving her a muffin. The ponytail girl wanted her to be comfortable in America. So, welcoming newcomers can help them to be relaxed in our country.

Last but not least, I learned that being different might not be bad. Being different lets you to experience different things. In the story, Yoon learned to write in English in school, she didn’t know how to write in English, because she was from Korea. But these new things could extend her knowledge, because she was different. So, being different can help you to know a lot of new things.

This story tells of a Korean girl named Yoon who moved to America. Yoon wanted to go back to Korea and she disliked her English name, so she wrote Cat, Bird, and Cupcake instead of her name. Finally, her teacher liked her and she made a friend, so she was comfortable in America. I learned that we should be patient in a new place, we should welcome newcomers, and being different might not be bad. This is truly a meaningful story.
