My Diary from Here to There, is written by Amada Irma Pérez. This book starts off in Mexico, and it is about a little girl named Amada. One night, she cannot sleep. Amada overhears her parents talking about moving to Los Angeles because her dad cannot find a job in their hometown, and believes that there are greater opportunities up North. During the migration, it is a long and hard odyssey, the deserts are cold at night so they have to huddle together to keep warm. They finally get to their grandparents house and stay there with the family. The next day papá leaves the house to get a job in Los Angeles, and apply for his family’s green cards. After they wait a while they finally get their green cards, and are able to rejoin with their papà, at California. This story is rehearsed by Amada’s journaling of how she was scared and worried at the beginning. As they migrated to Los Angeles her feelings changed and she was getting more positive at what they were about to face.

As they migrated to Los Angeles Amada’s feelings changed from being scared and afraid, to excited and confident.  At the beginning she was afraid of leaving her home town, worried about never seeing her best friend Michi, if she could not learn the new language, and could not speak Spanish there. Amada’s feelings are gradually changed by the lovely relatives that support them by keeping them happy, and the grandma trying to comfort Amada, and get so excited when they get their green cards so they can reunite with their papà. Even in the U.S she found a quiet and beautiful place where she could think and write her diary. In our life we always face new changes and chances, so we should positively take those chances and put us in the right mindset.

The family, when they meet a downfall, they support each other by being positive and cheering to overcome their hard situations. Amada’s parents, especially the papà, were motivated by what is best for his family, so he decides to migrate where there is more work available in the U.S.A. The Papà who is working hard to save the money and misses his family so much, but he still stays hopeful throughout the story. When the papà leaves the mom has to take care of the 6 children by herself, and misses and worries about her husband. The boys who are excited about going to the states, always make Amada happy by funniness. Through the family’s migrating story life can go up and down, but if you stay positive, brave, and ambitious you will go through hardship.

Immigrants are people who move from a country to country for themselves or their family to get a better life. The family are immigrants now because they move from country to country, in this situation the family is moving from Mexico to the U.S. The five brothers were happy when they heard this, saying that there are excelators to ride, and it smells like popcorn there. The mother is also saying that there are new opportunities there, as there are other jobs, new schools, and a chance to know a different language. She also exclaims that it is a good way to travel somewhere else. Immigrants can have different lives in different places, because they have a change of place, but it is okay to change as long as it helps you throughout life.

Amada was always scared of leaving her home town in the beginning but her family helped her not be scared from that. In the story we saw Amada scared and frightened of the change they’re going through, but as the story progressed she started to feel more confident. The whole family met a downfall, but since they stayed together and helped each other they did not feel sad or anything. At the end the family were immigrants because they all migrated from Mexico to the U.S.A. You should not be scared to travel in the world, because it is just a part of life that you travel through, and if you have your family with you, you will never be alone.
