Story Review of Mice and Beans

Characters: Rosa Maria, Catalina, Mice

Setting: Rosa Maria’s house

Plot: Rosa Maria is preparing for her little granddaughter’s birthday party, but something goes wrong everyday.

Genre: fantasy

The story Mice and Beans, written by Pam Munoz Ryan and illustrated by Joe Cepeda, mainly talks about a Grandmother Rosa Maria who is preparing for her little

granddaughter’s birthday party, but something goes wrong each day. Every night before she goes to sleep, she will set a mousetrap. However, the mousetrap will

disappear the next day. Besides, from Sunday to Saturday, she lost a napkin, a few feathers from the Pinata, her favourite wooden spoon, and a candle. But for Rosa

Maria, this is not a big problem. On Saturday, the birthday party goes well, and all the children enjoyed the pinata. But Rosa Maria remembers that she didn’t fill the

pinata. At last, she thought of something and left some food for the secret helpers. From then on, she stops setting any mousetraps.

From this story, I noticed that the love between family members is unconditional. They will love each other and ask nothing for return. They will try their best to make

each other happy. They will always be there when we need them. If we live a happy life, they will be proud and happy, too. In the story, Rosa Maria prepared the birthday

party very well. She spent a week to buy everything she needs for the party. At the same time, she ordered the birthday present-something Little Catalina had wanted for

a long time. Grandma Rosa has a big heart. She cares about what her granddaughter really wants. If all her family members enjoy the party, Grandma Rosa will feel

happier. Love is like a strong glue that connects family members closely together.

From this story, I also learned that a happy life has nothing to do with the size of a house. We don’t have to own a big house to feel happy. To live a happy life, we must

work hard for something that really matters such as our families and true friends. If we have a happy family that always looks after each other, we will feel happy no

matter where we live. If we care about each other, we will understand what true happiness feels like. In the story, Rosa Maria lived in a tiny house with a tiny yard. But she had a big heart, a big family , and she loved to cook big meals for them. This is a beautiful picture of what a happy life looks like. Rosa Maria raised a big family in

such a tiny house. She is a powerful woman and a grandmother with a big heart full of love. There are many kinds of happy life in the world. Everyone has their own

understanding of happiness.

From this story, I learned that things are not the same as what they look like. As the old saying goes. don’t judge a book by its cover. If someone doesn’t look nicely, it

doesn’t mean that they are bad guys. If someone has a hot temper, it doesn’t mean that they are bad guys. In the story, the mice took the napkin, the wooden spoon and the candle. It seems that the mice stole things from Rosa Maria. But in the end of the story, it’s the same mice that helped Maria fill the birthday Pinata. It seems that the mice don’t look nice. At the same time, they did something bad each day. But to Rosa Maria, the mice are really good helpers. In reality, we need to look things from different angles. we will have different answers.

what happy life looks like. My favourite part is in the end of the story when the mice used every little thing they got from Rosa Maria to hold their birthday party. They

look themselves as part of Rosa Maria’s family. They helped her fill the pinata secretly . At the end, Rosa Maria realized this and accept them as part of her family. She changed the old saying to “when there ‘s room in the heart, there’s room in the house… even for a mouse”. I highly recommend this book and hope that you will enjoy the story as much a I do.
