Story Review of Head, Body, Legs

The folk tale “Head, Body, Legs” retold by Won-Ldy Paye and Margaret H. Lippert and illustrated by Julie Paschkistalks about a time long ago, there was a head named Head. Head eats what he can reach with his tongue. His appetite for food helps him meet three friends and in the end, they combine together to pick a mango and Head takes a bite. While reading this story, we can know more about advantages and disadvantages, teamwork, and language arts.

First, I learned that everyone has their own advantages and disadvantages. No one in this world is perfect, so everyone must use their characteristics to work with someone else to make things more perfect. In the story, Head’s advantage is sight, Arms’ advantage is the ability to pick, Body’s advantage is swimming, and Legs’ advantage is being high enough. They knew each others’ good points and weaknesses, so they combined together to pick a mango. They used their strengths but avoided their weaknesses, so that they succeeded in combining their advantages together and were successful in picking a mango and taking a bite. So, everything performs its own function, therefore, when we are working with someone, we should show our advantage and avoid our disadvantage.

Secondly, I learned that not a single one can be omitted. No one can do things accurately alone, people must combine forces with someone else in order to do things more perfectly. In the story, Head used sight and Arms used the ability of picking things to get the cherries and Head, Arms, Body, and Legs supported each other to pick a mango. They couldn’t do these things alone, because they each had advantages and disadvantages, but by using teamwork, they accomplished their goals that they couldn’t do alone. So, teamwork makes things better by combining your advantages with other people’s.

Last but not least, I learned that using language arts properly leads to happiness. If you have this skill, you can invite someone into helping you. In the story, Head invited the other parts by saying his advantage which is the other parts disadvantage and then saying their advantage. He did this to make the other parts want to rely on him, because the others don’t have the advantage of sight. So, if you have the skill of using language arts properly, you can convince people to work as a team with you.

This story tells of a smart body part named Head who meets other body parts who help him in his goals and in the end manages to pick a mango. From this story, we learned that everyone has advantages and disadvantages, so we must use teamwork to reach our targets, therefore we must use language arts to convince other people to help you. This is a simple but meaningful story.
