Story Review of Goose’s Story

Characters: I, Henry, one-foot goose

Setting: Pond, Spring to next Spring

Plot: Henry and I find a one-foot goose.

The story of Goose’s Story, written by Cari Best, talks about a one-foot goose. On a Spring morning, Henry and I find a hurt goose with only one leg. I observe that the other geese are leaving out the goose with one leg. But she is very strong, she practices to run and swim with one leg. But I don’t find her to fly with one leg. I worry about her. One afternoon, all the geese are gone. I worry that maybe the goose with one leg cannot pass winter. Next spring, we find the geese are coming back. We spot the goose with one leg, and we find that she has a husband and a set of babies. I feel proud of her.

If animals want to survive in nature and humans want to survive in society, we all need to learn to never give up and live with our weakness and defeat our weakness. Everybody has a weakness, we need to get over our weakness, instead of doing nothing. The one-foot goose tries her best to do things on one foot. Even though other geese stay away from her, she never gives up. I think the one-foot goose is strong. We need to learn from her.

Only I can decide if I’m strong or not. When other people think that I’m not strong, I can prove by my actions that they are wrong. The other geese think that the one-foot goose is weak. She proves that she is strong by sunning, swimming and finding food on one foot. Other geese shouldn’t decide if she is strong or not by the appearance.

This book has a writing skill called indirect description. Indirect description will not tell something directly, it will describe it. The author uses indirect description because he/she wants us to guess, and he/she wants to write long beautiful sentences. The author doesn’t say spring is coming directly, he/she just describes the things that happened in spring. I really like this writing skill. I want to use it next time.

This book tells us we need to learn to live with our weaknesses. Another thing that the book tells us is that only I can decide who I am. The book uses many writing skills. I really like this book. This book teaches me many things. When I read it, I feel pity for the one-foot goose, and I also feel proud of the things she has done.
