Story Review of Goose’s Story

Characters: one foot goose, I, Henry

Setting: near the river

Plot: the road of one foot goose being strong

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Goose’s Story was written by Cari Best and illustrated by Holly Meade. This story tells about how Henry and I found a one foot goose in one spring. The one foot goose was very negative at that time. She never played with other geese and swam because they all thought she was weak. But one foot goose lived with her weakness and tried to learn to swim and fly independently. Finally she succeeded and returned with seven babies next spring.

Firstly, I think the most important reason for one foot goose to be successful is that she leaves her comfort zone. So she must walk out of her first step from her disability. In the story, the goose is very helpless for the first time. She lost her one foot and her confidence as well. However, she lives with her weakness and never gives up. She keeps practicing herself so that she can eliminate her weakness and be the same as the other normal geese. So if we face difficulties, it is definitely better than sitting down and doing nothing.

Secondly, it is up to you to decide that you are strong or smart or diligent. Since other people cannot change the real you when you really want to become better. For instance, if other geese play with a one foot goose, she only can stay in her depressed life stage and never have the chance to be strong. So when we cannot solve a problem, we should not give up and must figure it out by ourselves. Therefore, there is no one who can replace you to be a successful person.

Thirdly, the author is good at using many different verbs to describe weather and the geese. The author used many verbs such as land, stand, band, sleep, drink, bathe, swim, sun, pecking, nibbling and celebrating to describe geese’s activities in many details. The author used peeping, prancing, flapping and following to describe the one foot goose’s seven babies, which is so vivid and I can learn a lot from these vocabulary.

In conclusion, I am moved by the brave heart of the one foot goose. She is so strong and fights for her destiny and lives well with her weakness. Life is not easy, but we must have the courage to face all difficulties in front of us, which enable us to grow up and be successful in our life. I sincerely recommend it to all kids to read it.
