The story of Farfallina and Marcel written by Holly Keller talks about a duck and a caterpillar who are best friends. This started in a spring when Farfallina was eating Marcel's leaf he was using as an umbrella. When they saw each other they introduced each other and played together. One day Farfallina did not feel well so Marcel said he would wait. It was a long wait. Marcel got older while Farfallina turned into a butterfly in summer. However they are still best friends when they recognize each other.
I learnt that we sometimes want to lose in the game to show that we are nice and not someone who always brag about how good you are. Everyone has something you are good at or not very good at. In the story, Farlallina and Marcel like to play hide and seek together. They always hide in a place where they can find each other because they know they both have something that they are not good at. It is nice to make everyone feel good during play time by losing in the game sometimes. It is not fair to always win because someone is born to be just not good at it.
I also learnt that good friends should spend time together and take care of each other. Sometimes we may not understand what our friends are doing, but we should still be there to support. In the story, Farfalina was not herself and needed to rest. Marcel didn’t know what happened but he just waited and was there everyday to support. Marcel is a very nice friend so finally they meet each other again when they both grow up. Therefore, we all should be supportive to our friends even if sometimes we don’t really understand everything.
Last but not least, I learnt that when we write stories we should write details to let readers get conclusions themselves. We also should be logical when writing. Always write cause and effects so the readers can follow our thoughts easily. In the story, the writer writes from spring to fall. The writer doesn’t just write it is fall directly but writes about the color change of the trees and ponds. The writer also writes about what happens when Farlallina was not herself with causes and effects. The readers can follow the story and picture the imaginations very well. We all should try to use these writing skills.
In summary, Farfallina and Marcel is a very nice story. It teaches us what to do with our friends. We should enjoy ourselves with friends by taking turns to win games. Therefore we all feel happy spending time together. We should be fair with our friends. If we know someone is not good at something, we shouldn’t alway do those things to make the friend feel bad. Finally we also should be supportive to our friends when they don’t feel good or they are going through changes. Sometimes maybe we don’t understand their decisions or changes, we still should try to be there to support as good friends.
