Story Review of Dear Juno

Basic Elements

Characters: Juno, Grandma, Mom and Dad

Setting: night time

Plot: Juno has a letter from Korea. It is a letter from Grandma.

Genre: Fiction

The story Dear Juno is written by Sojung Park, it talks about a boy called Juno and he receives a letter from his grandma from Korea. He doesn’t read Korean , so he uses the picture to understand what was inside and he knows that grandma has a new cat. He uses a leaf and he draws pictures of his family and himself with a picture of a plane and sends them in an envelope. Later, he receives another letter from his grandma, it has coloring pencils and a picture of a new kitten. Juno misses grandma and wants grandma to visit them.

Family love is invisible and even with distance, we still love each other. It is like a satellite and a radio, the signal is invisible but the message of love is always there. In the story, Juno and grandma can still feel the love for each other even though they are thousand miles apart. Using drawing and sending each other pieces of life, they understand each other just well. We don’t need to see each other to love someone. We can keep them in our heart.

A letter doesn’t need to always have words. Because we can use a picture to understand each other. In the story, Juno uses the pictures that grandma sends to understand what grandma wants him to know. In return, Juno uses his drawing and small pieces of his life to tell grandma how he has been doing on the other side of the world. There are many methods to communicate with people, use them well.

If we really love someone, we want to share things with them. Because we will miss them and want to send them messages or show them what is new about ourselves. By sharing news with the people we care about-, we will remember each other well even if we are far apart. In the story, grandma sends a flower to Juno and Juno sends a leaf to grandma. They both miss each other and are eager to know each other well. Sharing is caring, we love and we will share.

I learned three thighs in this story. First, I learned that love is a signal that is invisible. Next, I learned that letters can do without words. Lastly, I learned from this story that people want to share things with their loved ones. I want to talk about the author’s writing in this story, he likes to use indirect description and long sentences to tell the story. These methods will make the sentences beautiful and interesting to read. Also, the author uses rhetorical devices such as simile to make the story more memorable to its readers. I like this story, I hope you will like this book too.
