Story Review of Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type

The fiction story “Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type” written by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin talks about a thing that happened on a farm. The farmer is called Farmer Brown and his cows like to type. And that led to problems, which ended with a deal involving exchanging a typewriter for electric blankets. But that was ruined when the Ducks kept the typewriter and requested a diving board. This story lets us understand three things after reading.

First, I learned that we should treat people the way we want to be treated. We should make both sides happy, because this is a way to stop the relationship from crumbling. In the story, Farmer Brown is mean to the Cows, but the Cows are mean to him too. I think this is wrong, I think if they are mean to Farmer Brown, then Farmer Brown might be even mean to them. So, if someone treats you badly, you can treat them nicely, and if someone treats you nicely, you should treat them nicely too.

Secondly, I learned that the more people joining in something the easier it is to succeed. The more people who work together, the faster and easier the process is. In the story, in the beginning, the Cows were unsuccessful in requesting electric blankets, but when the hens joined in, they were successful. They worked together to convince Farmer Brown to give them electric blankets and they succeeded. So, teamwork is important in completing hard tasks.

Last but not least, I learned that before asking for something from others, we should make a win-win agreement. We can’t use something we don’t have or cannot control as leverage. We should have a compromise with other people with an equivalent exchange. In the story, the Cows and hens had milk and eggs as leverage and they used this leverage to get what they want. The Ducks didn’t have anything as leverage, because they give Farmer Brown their meat, and Farmer Brown can catch one duck and eat or sell that duck at any time. So, we have to negotiate with other people for something by giving them something equally useful.

This story talks about a farm with a farmer who is mean to the animals, but the animals are mean to him. In the end they had a compromise to exchange a typewriter with electric blankets. This story teaches us communication skills, teamwork, and equivalent exchange. These things are useful in life, and these are also methods you can use to get what you want. This story is truly a helpful and meaningful story, so I recommend more people read this story.
