Genre: Narrative Nonfiction

The story “Beatrices Goat”, written by Page McBrier, talks about a girl named Beatrice, who lived in a very poor family. She extremely wanted to go to school. One day, they were told that they would get a goat from some kind people. She first thought that how could a goat help them. They need money. But after the goat gave them two babies, goat milk that can either be drunk or sold to other people. They soon got enough money to pay for school and rebuild their house. When she went to school next day all her friends were proud of her. Finally, she told her friend Bunane that he would receive a goat next.

Helping poor people is essential. If you don’t help the poor ones, they will die. If you help them, they will get better soon and help the world. You are helping the world if you help poor people. After you helped poor people, there would be more people to do jobs and work. In the story, the kind people gave Beatrice’s family a goat that they first think was useless but instead it was very useful and let Beatrice achieve her dream to go to school. This shows that you don’t always need to give money to the ones to help. Maybe something that is low-price can also help. You should help the poor ones, because they may help the world.

You must do the important things first. If you don’t do the important things first and do the least important things first, the important things will not get finished and you may get into trouble. If you finish the “First things”, you may do whatever you want. In the story, even though Beatrice’s family had enough money to make their family stronger, mom decided to let Beatrice go to school. It is Beatrice who earned all the money, so she has more opportunities to get what she wants. If you do the important things first, it is up to you what to do after you finish.

Good things take time. If you rush on a task to finish it, it wouldn’t be perfect as the groups who did it slowly and steadily. For example, you want to play games after you done your writing and you rush it. Your reports were very bad. The ones who didn’t rush it got good reports. In the story, the good thing is that Beatrice could go to school. But the money that Beatrice earned took a long time to earn. This shows that Beatrice has a very good patience. If you rush on things, you may have bad consequences.

In conclusion, this story talks about a girl named Beatrice who is poor at first but achieved her dreams of going to the school by a goat sent by kind-hearted people. She used the goat for businesses and earned some money to pay for school. From this story, I learned three themes. Firstly, poor people needed not just money, they also needed something that is long-run. Secondly, First things first. You should always do the important tasks first before you think to do something else. Lastly, a good piece of work takes time. You should never rush your work.
