I read a realistic fiction called Babu’s Song. It talked about a boy and his grandfather who were unspeakable because of an illness. Babu and Bernardi were poor, so they didn’t have enough money to go to school. One day a woman bought the music box from Bernardi, and he got a handful of money. Finally, Babu paid Bernardi to go to school, and he made a soccer ball from string to Bernardi.
Education is always the most important thing in this story. Even though Babu and Bernardi were poor, they used to sell toys to make money. At last they got a handful of money, and Babu paid Bernardi to go to school instead of playing soccer ball, because Babu thought that education was the most important thing in Bernardi’s life.
I think that it’s not a bad thing to live in a poor family with no money. Firstly, you can get money on other things. For example, Babu made toys and Bernardi sold them to get money. Secondly, everyone’s family has love, so your family probably has too. Love gets family bonds closer, and lets us feel the warm and caring family.
There are some things that repeatedly appeared in the story that have special meaning, or for another word, symbolism. For example, the word ‘school’ is one. Its special meaning is that Bernardi likes to learn and wants to go to school, even though he is poor. Another one would be the phrase ‘soccer ball’. Its special meaning is that Bernardi likes playing soccer with the other kids. It’s like his hobby. The last one is ‘music box’, which means that Babu and Bernardi all like listening to music, and it’s Babu’s voice before he was unspeakable.
In conclusion, Babu and Bernardi were poor, but they always put education first. I recommend this story to all of you because Babu teaches us that although poverty will lose you a lot of choices, like playing soccer or other things you want to buy, education is the most important thing you should choose firstly.
