A Castle on Viola Street is a realistic fiction written by DyAnne DiSalvo. It is about a family who had a big dream of owning a house. One day, they saw some boarded-up houses on Viola street and decided to volunteer to fix the houses for other people. Everyone got their own special job and contributed their own power to the project. At last, the Viola street went through significant changes of the renovation, and the family finally owned a house on the street too.

Our family is richer in more ways than we count. When we are happy and full of love and support, it is priceless and worth more than anything else in the world. The family in the story is poor in substance and lives in a small apartment, they understand and love each other. The love and support they share with each other is unconditional, which makes the family rich in their spirits. Therefore, we should look beyond material wealth and appreciate other important factors of our lives.

Anyone who wants to can help. Volunteering does not solely depend on your appearance and resources. Everyone can lend a help hand if he or she has a kind heart. The family in the story helps to fix up a house for others, and later on other people help them in return. In helping others, we help ourselves. Therefore, we should find ways to volunteer more to the best of our ability, and count on other people to return the favor one day.

Sometimes new things are hard to get used to and people are slow to change. It is because that people are often afraid of the uncertainty coming along with the changes. When the project on Viola Street started, some neighbors started to complain and did not understand the meaning of the project. But eventually, they changed their minds after the street was shaped up nicely. It takes time to adapt to new things and enjoy the benefits of them. Therefore, people should be open minded and learn to accustom to the changes happening around us.

Being little is no excuse not to pitch in. People that may seem insignificant can still demonstrate their value in a project or society. The younger sisters in the story were not able to do the heavy lifting jobs, but they served drinks to the volunteers and helped with the cleaning. They shared the same aspiration of owning a house and getting their head down on the special tasks they were assigned to. Therefore, no matter little or big, everybody should contribute their own power to a common goal.

Big dreams are built little by little, like the old saying that Rome wasn’t built in a day. The journey of reaching the dream is lengthy and requires a lot of hard work. The family in the story also built their dream together by volunteering in a lot of construction work before making a start of their own house. When people have big dreams, it is never a swimmingly process. It often involves trying, falling down, but the key is to constantly get back up and try again. Therefore, we should work hard to reach what we desire step by step, with no rush.

A Castle On Viola Street is an inspiring yet educational story. It tells us that we can be richer in more ways than we count if we are full of love. We should volunteer if we can, be open minded to the changes happening around us, and contribute our power to a common goal regardless of our appearances. Last but not least, big dreams would come true if we put effort forward and reach it little by little.
