Story Review for Big Red Lollipop

Characters: Sana, Rubina, Ami (mom), Maryam

Setting: home

Plot: Sana wants to go to Rubina’s friend’s party.

Gerne: Realistic fiction

Perspective: First person

The Big Red Lollipop is written by Rulchsana Khan, it talks about a girl that is invited to a birthday party and her sister wants to go. When she is at the party, she is crying like a baby. After the party they have big red lollipops. Sana eats her but Rubina saves hers for later. The next morning, Rubina finds Sana steals her lollipop and the worst thing is her friends don’t invite her to the birthday party anymore. One day, Sana is invited to her friend’s birthday and their sister Maryam wants to go. Rubina persuades her mom to let Sana go alone. After the party, Sana gives Rubina a big green lollipop and they were friends again.

Being a good mom means to be fair to all of her children. Because if moms treat their children unfairly then they will not be fair to others when they grow up. In the story, their mom Ami let Sana go to the birthday party so when Sana is invited to a birthday party, mom let Rubina and Maryam go to the party too. Their mom was teaching them a lesson “is not about good or bad, it is about being fair.”

We need to be kind to others no matter if they are good or bad. Because there is an old saying “己所不欲勿施于人” (If you don’t like something, don’t let people have that bad experience again). In the story, Rubina doesn’t let Maryam go to the party, because she doesn’t want Sana to experience what she experiences before. Treating people with kindness is best for everyone.

If we do something wrong, we can always fix it. Before things become a life time regret, we can find time to fix it. In the story, Sana realizes that she has done something wrong. So she fixes it by giving a green lollipop to Rubina. We need to show gratitude to the people that help us.

This story talks about three things. First, I learned that a mom needs to be fair and square. Next, I learned that we can not judge people by what they have done. We need to show kindness. Lastly, I learned that we can always fix what we have done wrong. I like this story because Sana was unkind in the beginning but she was kind at the end of the story. I present this great story to you.
