Endangered species refers to some types of animals that are very close to extinction. This means that there is only a very small amount of that type of animal on earth. They are threatened with becoming extinct. If we don’t protect those endangered species, they might be gone on earth forever. Animals could be endangered for many reasons. One of the major reasons is that their habitats are constantly destroyed by people. This act is called Urban Sprawl which is defined as people taking over most of animals’ habitats. Another reason is that humans are overhunting them. More and more animals are dying because of human activities. People are a major problem of endangered species. Many animals will start to go extinct if people are still continuing to harm animal habitats and kill them.
Humans have done many things to harm animals. Urban Sprawl and hunting are decreasing the animal population. People are destroying animal habitats by cutting down trees, building buildings on their homeland, polluting the air and water. Other than that, human beings are impacting animals’ lives in some new ways like Covid 19. This disease wiped away many animals’ lives, especially creatures in the monkey family like the Sumatran orangutan and the white cheeked gibbon. Human activities are forcing animals to leave their habitats and even kill them. Another major problem is overhunting. A 2022 endangered species statistic reveals that more than 200,000 wild animal species are killed by humans every year. Many wild animals are threatened and endangered mostly because human beings are eating away their territories and overhunting them.
Human beings need to work together to prevent animals from extinction. There are many things that people could do to help and protect endangered animals. One way is to conserve natural resources. This means to only use what you need and never waste it. This small but powerful act could save many animals and trees. Polluting reduction could also save organisms. It includes not dropping trash on the ground, not pouring dirty water into clean water bodies, and never emitting chemicals into the ocean. Pollution abatement could prevent animals from eating toxic chemicals or plastic and getting sick or dying. As kids, we could prevent littering and recycle everything that could be recycled. People could do many things to help endangered animals such as conserving resources and controlling pollution.
There are many other bigger ways to help threatened and endangered species. By passing laws about hunting animals to the government, animals will be protected and safe from becoming extinct. For example, laws would only allow a limited amount of animals being caught each year. In that way, animal species wouldn’t be over hunted and endangered. Also, bringing animals to where there are none and keeping the natural ecosystem balanced would help many species too. Both the predator and the prey would thrive that way. These acts would make sure there are enough animals of one kind so it wouldn’t become extinct even if being hunted. Passing laws about regulating hunting and bringing animals back are other ways human beings use to protect endangered species.
