Pride and Prejudice is a novel about how five sisters find a husband. . The five sisters' names are Jane, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary, and Elizabeth. Elizabeth, who is also known as Lizzy. The family meets Mr. Bingley, who likes Jane, Mr. Darcy, who likes Lizzy, and Mr. Collins, who proposes to a friend, Charlotte Lucas. Lizzy rejects the first marriage proposal of Mr. Darcy, who tells her that a person named Wickham tries to elope with his sister, Georgiana. Lydia goes away with Wickham, and Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy both arrive in Netherfield. Mr. Darcy's aunt, Lady Catherine demands Lizzy to not accept Mr. Darcy's proposal because her daughter wants to marry him. Elizabeth does marry Mr. Darcy later.
The role of women society expects them to have is the house chores, such as cleaning, cooking, and taking care of people. Some women would do those chores, while other richer women don’t have to do the chores and would have somebody, like a housekeeper or butler, do it for them. The poorer women would do the chores, while the richer ones would be busy learning or finding love. The Bennet sisters after they become poor do the chores themselves, because they cannot afford many good things, so they work for themselves. The Bennet family before they became poor was in the middle class, so they could afford a housekeeper to do work for the house, while the sisters were busy finding love or doing their own thing. Having more money means that the women in the family are more focused on marrying well than actually doing the roles that society expects women to usually do. Being poor means that the women have to focus more on doing the things they should do rather than trying to focus on their love life because they have to do it in order to maintain a good household. The roles of women can change due to the money somebody has.
In order to get good marriages, women sometimes have to be very wealthy, talented, and pretty for someone to love them. They have to be accomplished, so that the men are interested in actually marrying them instead of viewing them as an average person. Every man should have a wife, so they would look for the best women they can find. In order for a man to marry a woman, Mr. Darcy said they should be accomplished, which means they should be good in all music, singing, drawing, dancing, and modern languages, as well as having an air in walking style. Bingley says to be accomplished means that the women should be able to paint tables, cover screens, and purses. A woman who is accomplished does not need to be all that Mr. Darcy or Bingley said. To be accomplished means that somebody has to be well educated, and also needs to have basic knowledge with most jobs. Being an accomplished woman leads to men wanting to marry the lady, which means that the lady’s job of finding a good marriage partner would have already been fulfilled. Being accomplished leads to having a good marriage.
A lady is considered a lady only if they have good traits that both society and men can easily notice. The women who don’t have a lot of money are not considered ladies because they do not have enough wealth to be considered so. There are many things a woman has to have and be in order to be considered a lady. The story states that a woman should be noble, have a good connection, have a good appearance, and also have good manners as well as be accomplished in order to be considered a typical lady at that time. Georgiana would be considered a typical lady at that time. Being considered a lady is hard to achieve because it requires the person to be good at many things at the same time. The story states that the person has to be considered a lady in order to marry well to a good, wealthy man, which is wrong because a woman should just be required to have a nature that the man is happy with being married to. At that time, being a lady was a very high level of respect.
