Rising of the Women’s Role

During WWII, almost all the men went to contribute to the war, which led to lack of logistics staff. Those jobs were once done by the men, but now, this position was left vacant, so the government began to appeal to women to do the work that men usually do. According to the situation, women began to work in factories, shipyards, and other manufacturing plants which could provide help for America during the war. Then, a virtual image that has been influencing the whole of America till nowadays, Rosie the Riveter, was created to motivate and encourage either women or black people to contribute to their country.

Because of WWII, almost all the men except the old and sick became soldiers who contributed to the war. The people left useful when the manufacturers were running out of workers, were only women who were once housewives. In the emergency situation, women replaced men to do their jobs in the manufacture and produce supplies for the war. Before, those women were once housewives, who’s life depended on their husbands. Now, those women who were seemingly delicate, did the work that once white men could do. In that era, people’s expectation of women was to take care of their family, and be a caring housewife. Obviously, there are more women in the office working, and the percentage of successful office ladies is increasing. Nowadays, women pursue freedom, autonomy, and not just being bound by men. Women have to live for themselves, not for their family and husband as before.

Before WWII, the stereotype of people to women was caring housewives and useless in society. What women should do is to take care of their husband and family. Through WWII, people changed their perspective to women from their ability of working in the factories. It shows to the world that women are not useless or weak, women can also do the things that men can do. Even though women performed perfectly in society, some people still keep a “conventional” view of women. Perhaps women need to appear stronger, and strive for more opportunities to show women’s capability in public. WWII is a good example; it provided a chance for women who were once seen as “weak” and “delicate” to show to the world that they can be as capable as men.

The image of Rosie the Riveter created a huge impact in both the women's rights movement and the civil rights movement. First of all, it provides women the chance of working like men usually do, and it increases the importance of women in the society. Secondly, in the emergency situation, Rosie the Riveter also provided proper jobs that white men usually did for black people. Think about it, both women and black people got the work that white men usually did, and explained that their social status has been improved. Rosie the Riveter can be popular through the time, because that image was motivating everyone to participate, with no discrimination or classification. There are black people and women in every generation, and this encouragement can go on and on through every person who needs to be motivated.

In conclusion, because of WWII, almost all the men except the old and sick became soldiers who contributed to the war. In the emergency situation, women replaced men to do their jobs in the manufacture and produce supplies for the war. Before, those women were once housewives, who’s life depended on their husbands.
