Review of Meeting Rosina

The story Meeting Rosina is written by George Ancona and it talks about a deaf girl named Rosina. She and her family study, work and live like ours. Although she and most of she’s family are deaf, they are happy.

Rosina is a deaf girl and her school is New Mexico School. This school is for the deaf. She studies math, writing, reading, and art in school. She also plays sports. Her school studies things like our school. After school, she will help her mom to cook Mexican food and play a game of chess with her Dad and her brother. Her life is the same as ours.

Rosina’s brother Emilio also studies in this school and her mom and aunt work at this school. In her school, Rosina helps her librarian sign stories from the books in the library, listens to the stories, studies art, uses watercolors to paint, plays rugby, and enters the competition. Deaf kids can still learn and enjoy a lot in a deaf school. Their school is the same as ours.

Rosina has a big family. She not only has Dad, Mom, and brother Emilio but also has lots of uncles, aunts, cousins, grandpas, and grandmas. Most of her mom’s family is deaf. But it doesn’t bother them. They can study in a deaf school, they can work with normal people, and can marry like normal people. Deaf people’s life is the same as ours.

The author wants to show how Rosina is just like other kids even though she is deaf. The author wants to show how Rosina’s family is just like other families even though most of them are deaf. All men were created equal. The author wants to show the country should provide deaf people with an equal chance to study and jobs that can avoid deaf people become unstable factors in the country.
