Protect Endangered Species

On Earth, there are many endangered species and they are protected by humans. Endangered species are species that are rare and on the verge of extinction. Animals such as giant pandas and black softshell turtles are examples of endangered species. These animals have a small population. For example, giant pandas have a population of only 1900. We all know that we must protect these species, but we might not know why. Why should we protect these animals? We will know in the following paragraphs.

Firstly, humans caused these animals to be endangered. Human activity has been harming animals for a long time. Humans destroy animals’ habitat to build houses, farms, and other structures. They also destroy habitats, like forests, for materials for building, such as wood. Humans’ hunting has also been affecting the animals' population. Advertisement hunting has put species like elephants in danger, people kill elephants for their ivory tusk to sell for money. People also pollute the environment causing many animals to die. So, this is how humans endanger animals.

Secondly, if we don’t save the animals, they will die out. If many species die out, we will have less things to study and we won’t have so many inventions. Many inventions are made from studying animals, insects, and plants, then using some special characteristics to make something. For example, helicopters are made making use of the ability dragonflies have to hover. Studying animals, insects, and plants can give us much more knowledge. So, studying animals, insects, and plants can help us invent more things and also make us smarter, therefore we should protect animals.

Most importantly, species going extinct can actually affect humans. You might ask why we need to protect animals. The truth is we cannot survive without animals. When a species is gone, it can affect the food chain, which will unbalance nature. If a meat eating species was wiped out, then the animals they hunt, maybe plant eaters, will grow in number and a lot of plants will be eaten, including plants used for medicine or eating. Without medicine, we cannot treat sick people and without crops, we might starve. So, the extinction of a species can affect us.

In conclusion, we should protect endangered species, because we are responsible for harming them. If we don’t protect them, they will die out, and we won’t be able to get new knowledge from them. Most importantly, if a species is extinct, it can endanger us as well. Protecting animals is an important thing, here are some ways to protect them. First, we can create breeding programs. Breeding animals is a good way to produce more animals of that kind, this can help endangered species become safe. Second, we can recreate habitats. We make habitats for animals that have lost their home, this can let animal populations rise. Third, we can protect the environment. We can prevent pollution, since pollution is a main threat to animals. So, protecting animals can help the environment, it can also benefit us.
