National Symbols

A national symbol may be any object, sign, or emblem that carries additional meaning and represents a cultural or political nation. National symbols intend to unite people by creating visual, verbal, or iconic representations of the national people, values, goals, or history. Throughout the history of the United States, Americans have developed symbols to express their most cherished values, hopes and institutions. These include familiar ones like the American flag, Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, Uncle Sam, the White House, and the bald eagle. These symbols are critical to American history. They signify America's freedom and are reminders of the many sacrifices it took to ensure it remains the land of the free and the home of the brave.

In the whole world, there are 196 countries. Some small countries don't have national symbols but some others have well known ones. Today, let’s talk about three countries which all have famous national symbols – France, England and Japan. France's national symbol is the Garlic rooster. It was widely used as a religious symbol, the sign of hope and faith. In England, there are three national symbols: the St. George's cross (usually seen as a flag), the red rose and the Three Lions crest (usually seen as a badge). It represents strength and endurance. Lastly, in Japan, its symbols include its national flag (flag of the sun), Cherry Blossoms, and kimono. It means the faith in the incredible power of the sun.

My favorite national symbols are from France which has two famous symbols - its national flag (Tricolor flag or called “ blue, white and red” flag) and The Gallic Rooster. The flag represents "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity" and the Gallic Rooster is the symbol of courage and bravery. I like French symbols because these two symbols describe an ideal country exactly as I dreamed. Because liberty and equality are the foundation of democratic society. And additionally with courage and bravery, I believe any difficulties can be overcome and the county will be stronger and stronger. Plus, personally I speak French, I have a natural affinity for France.

I am now living in Canada. It has multiple national symbols. For example, the maple leaves, the beaver and the horse. I think the maple leaf represents Canada the best. Because as long as we mentioned Canada, maple leaves will be the first thing jumping into people’s minds. It is the most widely recognized as the national symbol of Canada. In Autumn, if you come to Canada, you can see maple leaves everywhere, with different colors, it makes a beautiful oil painting in real life. As an immigrant country, Canada welcomes people from all over the world. Thanks to its millions of maple trees, it adds special charms into Canada when it attracts people.

In conclusion, it was very important for a country to find a symbol which can mostly present its spirit and characteristics. A country with its symbol can greatly unify its people and increase the pride of its motherland. We often see people staring at its national flag when they win in the olympic games, we usually see people singing their national anthem and holding their national flag in the war. All of these are showing the importance of national symbols. At last, I hope this text was useful and helped you to understand more about National Symbols.
