My Favorite Sport

Liz is an eight-year-old girl with curly hair. She likes skateboarding, and she is very good at it. One sunny day, Liz comes out of the house with her skateboard. She scans a big hill and finds it is perfect for skateboarding. Then She puts on a helmet and thick pads and skips up the hill. She puts her left foot on the board, bends her left knee, and pushes off with her right foot. Then she puts her right foot on the board and whips down the big hill. She skids and spins and zips down the big hill. She makes carving turns and kick turns. She is so jubilant. “I am so cool! I can fly!” Cries Liz. “Nice skill, Liz!” Says her friend Scott with a ball in his arm. Liz comes to a big stop, and dirt spreads all over. “Just a snap,” says Liz, holding her skateboard with her right hand and snapping her fingers with the other hand. She is very proud of herself.

My favorite sport is swimming. There are many reasons. First, I love water, especially cold water. It is very comfortable to swim in the cold water when the weather is hot. Second, it is fun to play in the cool water with my friends. We like to chase each other and see who can hold breath longer. We spin as fast as we can in the water. Third, swimming is good for our health. It makes us stronger and helps us grow taller.

Four main styles are used in competition and recreational swimming: the front crawl, also known as freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly. My dad taught me to breaststroke, and I lean backstroke and front crawl all by myself. I prefer backstroke the most. I like Michael Phelps. He is the greatest swimmer in the world of all time. He is the most decorated Olympian of all time, with 28 medals. Phelps has set 39 world records. He is successful not only because of his talent but also because of his hard work and never giving up. I will learn from him to work hard and persevere in swimming.
