My Favorite Phase of the Moon

Lunar phases are the stages the moon goes through throughout the lunar cycle, which is about one month in length. In each phase, we see the moon as a different size and shape, and the phases are based on the shape of the moon in a given phase. However, a lunar eclipse can happen during a full moon, when the moon appears to be pinkish or reddish because it is in the Earth’s shadow.

The moon’s different apparent shapes are caused by the moon’s reflection of the sun’s light from different angles. The sunlight only strikes the part of the moon that is facing the sun, making it light up, but the other side isn’t lit because the sunlight cannot strike the moon from the other direction. Since the moon rotates, the part where the sunlight strikes the moon keeps changing, and the lit-up part of the moon changes from our perspective on Earth.

There are eight phases of the moon, including the new moon, the waxing crescent, the first quarter, the waxing gibbous, the full moon, the waning gibbous, the last quarter, and the waning crescent. In the new moon phase, the entire moon appears dark. In the waxing crescent phase, a sliver of the moon is lit on the left. In the first quarter phase, the entire left side is lit. In the waxing gibbous phase, most of the moon is lit except for a bit on the right. In the full moon phase, the entire moon is lit. In the waning gibbous phase, a tiny portion on the left falls into the shadows. In the last quarter phase, the right half of the moon is lit. In the waning crescent phase, only a tiny sliver on the right is lit, and then the cycle starts over with a new moon. This cycle will continue forever, maybe until the moon escapes from its orbit around the earth.

My favorite phase of the moon is the full moon because it displays a complete image of the moon, and none of it is in the shadows. We can see it the same way we do in space, but only much smaller because we’re viewing it from a farther distance because the entire moon is lit, and we can see all of it. It makes the light so bright that we can not only see the moon clearly, but we can also see around us. It also makes me imagine life on the moon. Though it isn’t known to support any life except for microorganisms, some astronauts have gone to the moon. Is there truly no life on the moon, or is it just that alien civilizations are just underground, waiting to be discovered? Whenever I look up at the night sky on a night with a full moon I see something that looks like a face when I look up, and that makes me imagine life. Is there a rabbit on the moon?

In conclusion, a phase of the moon is a stage of the lunar cycle, and they are caused because the moon reflects the sun’s light from different directions. My favorite phase of the moon is the full moon because I can see the full image of the moon clearly. Learning about the moon and other celestial bodies is very interesting and most of the observable universe is waiting to be discovered. Maybe you will be one of the discoverers!
