My Favorite Art - The Starry Night

Masterpieces are extraordinary artworks. My favorite piece is The Starry Night. It is an oil-on-canvas that was painted by Vincent Van Gosh in June 1889. The painting presents turbulent flows with swirly stars in the dazzling blue night sky, a small town below compared to the enormous sky, and a huge cypress tree in the foreground with mountains hiding in the back.

I like The Starry Night for its resemblance to nature, the swirls in the sky, the blue night color reminds me of the milky way galaxy. In ancient history, cypress trees pointing to the sky is a reminder of life and death and a pathway to heaven. It makes me wonder what Van Gogh saw in the sky. I like how Van Gogh used natural objects to express his feelings.

The painting is very captivating. When I looked at this painting, it attracted my eyes instantly by the twists and turns of the swirls, and moved me throughout the painting. The yellow and blue colors are very vibrant and make the sky look very powerful. The bright sky and dark town are a direct contrast of two different worlds which makes the painting very memorable.

Van Gogh is a very influential artist. Although The Starry Night is one of his most famous works, it was not recognized as a masterpiece during his lifetime. Unlike Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Venchi or other Renaissance artists who had commissions from rich families, Van Gogh struggled with life. But the misfortune didn’t stop him from devoting to painting, and his way of expressing emotions influenced many artists.

Masterpieces created by artists with great effort can withstand time and inspire others. One doesn't need to be famous to make a masterpiece. Like The Starry Night, we learn to appreciate the artistic work presented by Vincent Van Gogh over time. Everyone has a favorite masterpiece that they can connect with.
