Sherlock Holmes is a popular fictional detective. He has become by far the best known literary detective ever created over 100 years. He first appeared in a novel called “The Study In Scarlet”, which talks about the first time Holmes and Watson met . Joseph Bell was the archetype of Sherlock Holmes. He was a teacher of young Arthur , a private doctor of Queen Victoria. Doyle himself said that he had taken inspiration from his teacher. Like Holmes, Bell could always draw unexpected conclusions about a person, without even asking any question to the person. Charles Doyle is another archetype of Sherlock Holmes, he died in the same year as Holmes. Conan Doyle never mentioned his father in his writing, just as Holmes never mentions his father . Doyle is intemperance and mentally ill, while Holmes is a drug addict and neurotic . Doyle is good at reasoning which , apparently, is the same as Sherlock.
Holmes is a maverick , lonely person. Most of the people who ever read Sherlock Holmes have the feeling that Holmes is a strange and unique person who always wandered outside the common mind. Others can’t keep up with him, and he still doesn’t bother to slow himself down, so most of the time he seems to be lonely . However this is not hard to understand , Sherlock Holmes is a genius, so there is no way to avoid his loneliness .
Sherlock Holmes is a man who does not seem to understand amorous feelings but has no emotional appeal. To everyone's eyes, these two seemingly different words are just right for Sherlock Holmes. But behind these seeming contradictions, in fact, is his inner arrogance as a super genius, he does not want to be intertwined in many things, he is eager to show his talent, eager to all kinds of battle of wits and courage. So it's not that he doesn't want it, it's not that he doesn't understand it.
Sherlock Holmes is a person who cherishes feelings . Perhaps because of the two previous personalities, Sherlock Holmes does not have many friends, which is probably the reason why he values friends very much. Although on the surface of Sherlock Holmes is aloof , but his inner world, deeply appreciates every feeling , whether it is to save Watson in a fire, or to protect Mary , all this shows Sherlock Holmes is a person who treasures feeling.
Sherlock Holmes is a complex character, his character often gave a person the sense of contradiction and madness. However perhaps it was because of his complex, the character is vivid, attractive and unique.
