Let’s Talk About Mistakes

People may think that a mistake has been forgotten by time, but it got against by one study. They found after the mistake, the brain will try to ignore it. By looking at how the brain works when people make mistakes, they found that people will realize they make a mistake no matter about his age. All people are able to try to fix the mistake because their brains let them to, and they also want to make it better when doing it again, but it finally becomes a rap to answer others' blames and not from our willing. It makes the result that it may still happen.

People are able to know if we make mistakes, and sometimes it can help us grow.

Mistakes can tell us the problem and let us change but it decides the ways people think. Children with growth mindsets were better at bouncing back after their mistakes. They were more likely to get the next trial right. In contrast, those with fixed mindsets want to ignore their mistakes, and if they ignore it, the problem will also get forgotten, and the improvement will never happen. The mistake is a good way to learn as the article says, but it decides if you can use the chance. Mistakes are a chance for us to learn, but it needs to have the growth mindset and then we can learn from it and do better.

When a mistake happens, people will mostly like to change it. People will know that they are wrong, so the hope of changing it is easily to happen. There is an experience, the study lets some children play a game with a simple rules, what they need to do is only to catch the escaping animals from the zoo but expect the monkey. Study found that when they catch the monkey by mistake, there will be a very short time, less than a second, a special part of the brain will make the movement, which means they realize the things they just do isn’t good for them. And when the later time, with the time going, they are doing better. By the report of the study, we can find that people are able to recognise mistakes.

Even to change it, when a mistake happens, what we need isn’t only to get out of the mistake. It shows that we aren’t able to afford mistakes. In another experience, it has some other situations different from the first one. In that experience, children also recognize they make mistakes, but due to some of the problems, they don’t try to change but try to find the problem from other things, this makes the score of the game low and it doesn’t improve. When the children don’t accept their problems, it is a kind of pushing away the mistakes, and the effect is that they don’t get any improvement. So after finding a mistake, it’s not only to push it away.

In conclusion, problems can help us succeed and improve ourselves. But it can be decided by different people. Only people with a growth mindset may get the chance to learn from it. Others are the opposite with them. In the article, the author talked about the details when they did the study. Sometimes people may ignore the problem so they can not get any improvement. That’s a stereotypical mindset, it won’t bring anything good for us. If we have a mindset to accept more things, mistakes are useful for us instead of bad. As the article says, “if you run away from your mistakes and try to ignore them, you’ll never improve.” Sometimes accept it and it may give you the most valuable things.
