Graph is a diagram that represents data in an organized manner. The points on the graphs can be connected into lines, curves or other formats to show the relationship between two or more things. When we choose the right type of graph, they make research more powerful. Graphs make the numbers more straightforward and therefore people can analyze them and understand the results better.
There are different types of graphs, for instance pie chart, line graph, pictograph, bar graph and the Venn diagram. The examples included below will give the illustration of the graphs that are most commonly used.
There are also different usages for each of these graph types. A pie chart can show parts to the whole, which can be represented in fraction, percentage or number. A line graph demonstrates the changes of one variable over time, which is often used to showcase the difference between the lowest and the highest numbers. Data can also be represented with symbols on a pictograph. You can be creative in choosing an icon or even a picture to show how many items in each catogory. A bar graph is similar to the line graph because it also shows the differences over time. However, the colorful bar graph can be better used to compare two or more choices. Last but not least, there is the Venn diagram. If you want to compare and contrast, you should use the Venn diagram. By using two overlapping circles, we can clearly display the union, intersect or complement of two groups.
Among all those graphs, my favorite is the Venn diagram because it is a very convenient tool for multiple purposes, like sorting information, comparing and contrasting, and permutation. Not only can it be used for counting numbers, but it can also be handy in more complex situations with more than two factors. I often use the Venn diagram in my school for various assignments.
In conclusion, graphs display data in a useful way. There are different types of graphs and they all have their unique usages. Data should be displayed according to your needs and should be organized in a clear way for others to better understand. Therefore, choosing the right type of graph is critical for the success of your work.
