Let's Talk about Galileo

Nally

Galileo Galilei was born on February 15th, 1564, in Pisa, Italy. His father was a musician and he wanted Galileo to be a doctor because doctors can make a lot of money. But Galileo liked math more and decided to study it. He didn’t make much money and had to stop his studies two years later because he couldn’t pay for school. But that didn’t stop him from learning more about math; he learned that when two objects fall at the same time and height (even if one object is very light and one is very heavy), it will touch the ground at the same moment. He also improved the spyglass into a telescope so that he could see space, and he discovered Jupiter’s moons and that our moon is bumpy with mountains. He also made an earthshaking discovery: almost every planet orbits the sun! This angered the church because they thought that the sun and everything else orbits the earth. He was in prison for the rest of his life. The church apologized 359 years after Galileo’s death! He became blind but still continued to work.

Galileo Galilei made many great inventions that affect us today a lot, here are three of the inventions: The telescope is very important and proof that the earth and all the other planets orbit the sun. It helps people to observe space and its planets when people can’t go to space. It showed that the moon has mountains higher than the highest mountain on Earth. The next one is the Thermoscope, which is an early thermometer that measures the change in temperature by detecting the variations in air pressure. He also invented the Military Compass, which is used to measure land, and it’s a great thing to use one map to make it more accurate. Galileo’s love for science and math helped him dig deep into math and science discoveries. Although he was sent to jail, his inventions helped thousands of people, and for not just one century but for many.

In all those inventions of Galileo Galilei affected us greatly, but my favorite is the telescope. It’s a symbol of curiosity and exploration. Even if we are small, our curiosity and power stretch forever. It shows that we can know more than we can ever see. Just a simple instrument leads to explorations of the Milky Way and its planets: the sun is the center of the Milky Way, and the moons of Jupiter. The simple instrument reveals the truth that had been kept from us for so long, reshaping our beliefs. It opened the door to more stars and made us wiser. The telescope tells us what we can’t see from the naked eye. It’s such a powerful instrument, a small spyglass can open the eyes of many, showing the vastness of the universe.

Galileo Galilei’s invention helped many people, and I would like to invent something that would help people in the future, too.  I would like to invent a little ball that could spill out water whenever I press a button; I could also control how much water I want it to spill out. It doesn’t need a battery at all, all it need is sunlight. And it can glow at night if it has enough sunlight. I would also like to invent another ball that could make bread whenever needed. All I need to do is press a button, and when the bread is out, I could press the button again. It needed the same source as the one spilling water and can glow. These will be useful for poor people and those who are traveling through the desert. They won’t have water everywhere, and food will be scarce.

Galileo Galilei was born on February 15, 1564, in Pisa, Italy. He had a hard life and invented many things, including the telescope. He was sent to jail because his discoveries were against the church. His telescope was the most famous, though the people in Galileo’s time didn’t care about him, without his inventions, life would be much more different than life now. Galileo invented many things, but the telescope is my favorite, it showed us such a tiny thing can lead to such a vastness of discoveries and reshape people’s lives. In the future, I would like to invent things that could affect people. I would like to help the poor and provide them with food and water for the people who are traveling through deserts. Galileo did some awesome things, and I would like to be like him, too.
