Let’s Talk About Education

A school is a place where students and adults can both learn about many things. Math, fusion, art, driving a car, etc. The two main functions of schools are to educate students and to socialize them. It allows kids to get more knowledge in an understandable way, and to be able to socialize and play with friends. Schools transmit values, beliefs, and attitudes that are important to society. They teach basic skills, such as writing, reading, math, and just general skills. In California, in the United States of America, from ages 6-18, kids are required to attend school. It doesn’t matter if it’s private or public. Kids who are absent for 3 full days in a single school year, tardy 3 times in a year, absent 3 times for more than 30 minutes, or any combination of the above is considered a truant. The student will only be excused from being a truant if there is an acceptable reason for absence or tardy.

The main two types of schools that students usually attend are public school, and private school. Each school functions differently, and has different methods of teaching. Usually, private schools have a more expensive tuition fee, and are more picky about selecting which students to attend. They also usually have an entrance exam, and those who fail aren’t allowed to attend. Meanwhile, public schools are free, and anyone can attend. They have no tuition fee. Generally, I would prefer private schools. Because the administrators allow less students to enter and attend, the teachers can give more attention to the students, which is essential for the growth of the student. Private schools also give more options for courses to students, which is better, as students have more options to choose from, and have a wider range of knowledge. Because private schools have a wider range of activities and less students, it allows students to engage with their learning and the teacher better.

Another type of schooling is homeschooling. It lives up to its name. Students stay home while learning, and parents or tutors come to his or her house to teach them one on one. There are good parts about this, but there are also bad parts. For example, this way of schooling is good because the students get to interact with the teacher one on one, and the teacher can know which parts the student needs help on immediately. However, since the students stay home when they are being homeschooled, the students do not have as much of a chance to socialize with other kids their age. Homeschooled students might always feel shy in public, and not want to participate in public speaking activities. On the other hand, however, students usually get more attention and can get help if they need it immediately.

Different people have different expectations of the school they go to, or the school they send their kids to. Typically, I expect every single school to have sufficient textbooks, pencils, and whatever equipment needed to at least build a strong foundation for the kid’s learning experiences. The teachers should try to provide the students with desks, chairs, work or textbooks, pencils, and if possible, other supplies. Though, I think that desks, chairs, work or textbooks, and pencils are the very minimum teachers should provide the students with. My parents, on the other hand, expect schools to teach them needed knowledge, and how to solve everyday problems in a practical and logical way. They expect them to provide enough courses so students can find their passion and hobby. People can have different opinions of schools, of course, but it can always differ depending on their own experience of schools.

Schools are there to help you in life. They can't guide you forever. They watch and nurture you when you’re young, but soon, you have to travel away from it. All schools can do is teach you what you will need in life. Math problems, how to write a good essay, what is a volcano, etc. Schools can help you with personal growth and development of skills, a healthier lifestyle, more interests and hobbies, as well as career entry and advancement. You always want to find a job, right? Teachers and administrators that create meaningful parent involvement, celebrate personal achievement and good behavior or establish school norms that build values are set to make the future a better place for students and children. School is a really good boost in life. Useful, knowledgeable, and meaningful.
